It seems my gauge never fluctuates outside this range, no matter while I'm idle, or really stomping on it. Could it be installed incorrectly, or maybe the reading is accurate?

I put the new o2 sensor in the stock rear location, and attached the white gauge wire to pin 75 on the ecu (also white). When I first start the car the gauge goes all over the place, but once its warm, the gauge says steady between 15-15.5 usually.

It seems no matter what I'm doing the gauge is unaffected, idling, accelerating, decelerating, or WOT, the gauge always just flips up and down .1 at a time in that range. Any advice? Thx

also, if it is accurate, does this indicate I'm running unusually lean?

Did you personally install it?
How did you do it, e-tape, crims, rosin core solder?
Was it used when you installed it?
How new is it?

Did you just tap into the white wire at the ecu, or did you cut the wire, wrap it and leave it unused?

Dont worry. There is no way you are running that lean. Its inaccurate.

Did you try hooking it up to any dimmer wires?? Check the Illumination, power and ground. They need to be straight to a switched, 12 volt power supply. NO dimmer!

Let us know. Tyler./ :talon:

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Yes I installed it, with some advice from here and from a friend. I used electrical tape only for now, I was going to solder the connections once I knew it was hooked up correctly.

The gauge and sensor are brand new.

I tapped the power source into the cigarette lighter, and the ground to a bolt on a matal panel near by. I peeled back 1/8 inch of jacket from pin 75 and wrapped the gauge white around that, and covered with e-tape. I did not cut the ecu white, and it goes on elsewhere. I did disconnect the plastic connector that the stock o2 sensor was plugged into.

pin 75 I understand to be the fifth top row pin from the left, on the forth upper most connector. white wire (top row being closest to the push clip to release the connector)

Maybe I will get out my multimeter and check for voltages.

Thanks again for your help

The White and blue wires do not have to be used i would recommend unpluging them for a check on if your o2 sensor is in the right place if the reading is still not moving at all from the 15- 15.5 i would switch the w-band 02 out with another 02 closer to the downpipe because i had this problem from using the rear 02 bung

Wait, do you have a cat?? Your readings arnt going to fluctuate if you do. It should be baselined, and if i recall, it will be showing lean, aka no fuel in the exhaust... Thats the cat doing its job.

You should be certain they will be correct before you actually tamper with anything. Double check twice, cut-n-crimp once. LOL == no fried ecus..

Please dont do just the e-tape crap. ugh i have to undo so much of that on peoples cars, it just sickens me.

I would just double check that you used the right white wire. You should eliminate the white wire going to your rear cat connector at the ecu, just use the wideband.

I believe its also suggested to use the same electrical power and ground that the ecu uses.

Tyler./ :talon: So cat or no cat?

Now I dont own a second gen, but I would imagine that the front o2 bung is way up by the manifold, too close for you to use for your wideband.
What you should do, If you still have a catalytic converter (which you should), is pull your downpipe, and measure 36 inches roughly (i believe, check your instructions) from the turbo outlet.
Install the bung that came with your sensor and put your sensor there. also put the sensor at a 10degree angle, facing slightly upwards, again in the instructions.
It should be PREcat, and about 36 inches away from the turbo/manifold. Significantly closer and the life expectancy goes down on the sensor. If you do this, I believe you will want to tie into the FRONT o2 sensor wire, and return the rear o2 wires back to stock. That way you can accurately measure the o2 signal pre-cat, the computer will be able to as well, and the rear o2 still works so you dont throw a code.

Tyler./ :talon: Let me knkow man.

Oh damn I forgot to mention I do have a cat, and the sensor is currently mounted AFTER the cat. I did this simply for ease of installation (lazyness) LOL..

Ok you got me on the e-tape thing, I gotta start doing things proper instead of half-assed, this is my baby after all. I pledge to never use etape again!

thanks again for the valuable information!

Ok I will weld a bung in 36" away, either that or maybe I'll first try a test pipe to eliminate the cat. Stay tuned for an update..

Update: I got a 3" turbo back exhaust installed, the wideband o2 bung is right above the 90 degree bend in the downpipe. Now I believe it to be installed correctly, but the gauge still reads 15.0-15.6 or so all the time.. Could it be possible the guage or sensor is faulty? or just wired incorrectly?

UPDATE: problem solved!!

I found that one of the 6 pins in the O2 sensor clip was pushed in and wasn't making a connection. I used a small nail to push the pin forward from behind so that it made a connection and viola! Now my gauge moves throughout the range and gives what I believe to be accurate readings. Geez who would'a thought.

ps it was the orange wire not making a connection.
