AEM EMS---> Laptop What cable?

Ill be picking up my EMS soon, just wanted to know what cable i would need to run in to the laptop?

Laptop uses a UBS port

Do i just get a USB cable from EMS to laptop?

I now with DSMLINK I had to get a cable from dsmlink site.

You need a laptop with a serial port. Im pretty sure that AEM uses a serial port. The cable should come with the EMS. Call AEM and they will be glad to help you out.

You will need to get a USB to serial port adapter. The best one to use is the Keyspan adapter. You can get them from Comp USA for about $45.

This is the only one the seems to always work. I have used a couple different adapter cables, and the Keyspan has been the only one that works with all of the software I used.

Thats what I was going to say, I cant believe I forgot to tell you to get an adapter. I though that maybe now the newer AEM would have a USB port. I was in a new Corvette and it has a USB interface for the diagnostic port. CRAZY

I've had problems with the USB to serial converters. AEM recommends that you get an expansion card with a 9 pin serial port to elminate the chance of problems. It's not uncommon to completely erase the chip in the ecu when you're installing or upgrading the firmware and using a converter cable.

Next time you want to ask a bunch of questions about something try to put it one thread, it saves time and space.
