I'm swapping my 420a motor with a 4G63T but need to work around with my ECU because it's programmed for a non turboed motor, now if i buy the AEM EMS for my ECU will that adjust all my configurations for my new motor or do i need a totally new ECU?

Any and all wiring changes will still have to be made but once those are done and you order the proper ems you will be able to plug it in set up your base map and go

AEM EMS is a standalone ECU, it does not add on to your stock one. You should look into getting Megasquirt. It does everything AEM EMS does, but only costs about $400 at max with all sensors are accessories. This as well is a standalone EMS.

Either way, your going to have to trash that non turbo ECU and buy a 4g63 ecu or get a standalone like AEM or Megasquirt.

Ouch now that is one h*ll of a night mare. Instead, why don't you just start new with a turbo model. Less work and you will save money. The only reason I can see hold on to a car like that would be for the sedimental vaule and/or learning purposes.

Have you done your homework on what this swap requires you to do? You realize that everything is completely bass-ackwards, right? These aren't Honda motors that can swap in and out without a problem like Lego blocks. Just because they're both 2.0 4 cylinders doesn't mean they're readily interchangeable. I suggest you search for how many times this swap has actually been accomplished before you turn one bolt on this project.

I agree with boxx. I once had a 94 mirage i was doinga 4g63 swap to the swap was completely hot swappable. The car got wrecked and a buddy of mine sold me his 01 mirage. You would think would be just the same. The swap was going to cost an extra 2k because so much other stuff had to be done. Do some research on this swap before you start jumping the gun.

Yea, what a nightmare, and instaed of trying to use the factory wiring, you would probably spend 3 days less on wiring if you stuck the whole stand alone in with it's own wiring harness and all (by not getting a plug-n-play and just wiring the ECU up)

I mean the swap from a non turbo to turbo on a 1g isn't that bad, but when your setting out to change a motor that's not even the same family, same tranny or even pointing in the same direction expect problems of a great magnitude. It'd be a hell of a lot easier to just turbo the 420a and have it's internals built..and probaly cost you less still

OP, read that statement again and again and decide: Do a swap that is questionable in feasibility, a swap that is probably going to be more time and money than it's really worth OR simply buy a turbo kit that has been proven to make great numbers reliably for the engine that is currently in your car?

so where do i buy a stock 4G63T ECU?
and some of you are saying i shouldn't even do the swap cause it might cause me problems? so any suggestions on what i should do?
right now i currently have a cracked piston so my motor is pretty much shot right now. it has 140,000 miles on it that's why i want to do the swap. the job to get the piston fixed was estimated from a mechanic about 1500-2000 and the motor i was going to purchase is 1400 that comes with:
Complete Head Complete Block Intake Manifold
Exhaust Manifold Injectors Throttle Body
Power Steering Pump Sensors Fuel Rail
Alternater Distributor A/C Compressor
Turbo Charger
and has between 20-60,000 miles on it
so what should i do

Your average mechanic won't be able to put a 4g63 into your car. Your average DSM-specific mechanic won't be able to, either. The 4g63 and the 420a are two completely different engines, with two different transmissions, mounted completely opposite of each other. Things just won't "swap in" without major fabrication, time, money, and experience.

Your BEST bet is to find a 420a rebuild kit, have your current block reconditioned (if possible), and just rebuild your current engine. Then you can turbocharge it with one of several different turbocharger kits available for the 420a. If you want to build your engine for power, you can skip straight to using forged components for your rebuild, as opposed to OE components.

i want to get the 4G63t motor though. i heard that i can do the swap and keep the transmission i just have to run on low psi. then later on i'm going to get a new transmission.

i don't think it's worth rebuilding that motor, i think it would cost more money to do all that then just do the swap

You were lied to, the motor faces the wrong direction, the tranny will not even come close to bolting to a 4g63 motor and the mounts you need for the 4g63 to bolt in aren't even there. Your fabrication bill will be about the same as buying a slightly modded turbo GS-T or GS-X.. Who ever told you it would work, go slap them in the face and tell them to know what the hell they are talking about before running their mouthes.

Also, tell who ever said that it would fit that, i have a sweet JDM motor that i'll sell him for only 2x what a USDM 4g63t costs LOL

I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but you don't seem to realize that we've been telling you this all along, just in more technical ways reguarding what doesn't fit... So just to be clear, this will not work without MAJOR modification of the body, a new tranny and new custom mounts for it, maybe even some new front suspension pieces because the half shafts/CV joints aren't going to work either unless you run turbo hubs which probably for some reason wont bolt to the non turbo spindle so that means you will also need those. The more i think, the more i think of that won't work... If you need any more reasons let me know Also, the wire harness for a non turbo won't even connect to the sensors for teh turbo motor so you have to change the complete harness too or buy the stand alone AEM like i said earlier and replace the engine motor harness

You still don't get it. Nothing is the same in these two cars. The transmission in your car is on the DRIVER'S SIDE of the car. The transmission on a 4g63 is on the PASSENGER SIDE. And they DON'T BOLT UP since one is made by CHRYSLER and one is made by MITSUBISHI.

The axles are different, the engine and transmission mounts are different, the wiring harnesses are different, the ECU's are different, the trannies are different, and the engines are different. Please take it from someone who has heard your desires a thousand times before when I say that this swap is NOT going to be cheaper than rebuilding your engine. It's not going to be cheaper than turbocharging your engine.

If you are dead set on owning a car with a 4g63, then you'd best get to selling your car and looking for a GST/GSX because I'm 99.99% sure that your current car will never have one inside it. If you want to prove me and thousands of other experienced DSM'ers wrong, then by all means, go for it. But keep a tally of how much you spend on this project and how long it takes. I'm willing to bet it's going to be about 5 times higher than you think it'll cost.

You know, you could build a pretty bad-ass 420a turbo car with a megasquirt or AEM stand alone for that 4500 bucks...that includes machine work and some tougher rods and pistons too :D Not only would this save you time of selling and buying a car to start with, but it would give you a unique and still a very fast car for that amount of money. Ajax on here has a nice 420a turbo eclipse. He came down and i worked on teh tune on it for him and we took teh car from a slouch (plugs mis-firing adn WAY WAY to rich) to a mean ass car that was spinning the tires in third off the exit ramp from teh interstate to the road i live on :) For some real performance, buy what you need for an E85 setup, it won't cost you that much more compared to a regular pump gas seup. Upi would spend a little extra for some bigger injectors than what you might choose and the right fuel filter to handle E85 for a long time that is cleanable..this includes adding SS -6 lines from the filter to rail as well..probably about 200 bucks more or so.

Just do it right the first time! Meaning, just spend what you have (all of it if needed) on the parts you want or need for your performance level instead of "settling" for some lesser parts to save money. Because later down the road, you'll end up taking a loss when you sell the prts you settled for to get what you really wanted to begine with ( been there too may times thinking i wouldn't take a car past a certain opint of performance)

I can help you put together a list to build a badd-ass 420a if ya want.. PM me if so
