ok i have a 1997 mitsu eclipse Gs with a 420a there is a guy sellin his 4g63t (complete swap with tranny ) from a 1st gen .. my questions are would it be a good move to buy this motor and do a swap??? how much does a 4g63 run for usually ??? will it just bolt right in or will i have to do some other mods to accomodate this motor am i looking at major improvements in HP ... any other infor would be appreciated thanks

This has been discussed before, so ill let you search it.

Answer:
Buy the motor and tranny for 1000-1400 (milage and condition), sell your car, buy a FWD or AWD rolling chasis to drop it into.

Its not as hard as you thing to do all that. and it will bring you out ahead in the end.

welll gst's are hard to come across around me and considering i only paid about 3 grand for my car i think it would still be cheaper to do a swap but does anyone know if it bolts right up or is there a whole bunch of work involved

The two motors are oposite each other. 420a has a tranny on the drivers side, 4g63t has it on the passenger side. Axles will have to be changed, motor mounts, basically you will need to change and modify everything to do it. In the long run, turboing the 420a or buying a gst/x would be cheaper.

This has been discussed no fewer than 20 times. If you have the time/money to do the swap, you'd have the money to buy a GST/GSX You can pick up a 97GSX for $5500. You'll spend that on the price of your car + the engine/tranny, welding, parts, time, etc. There's really no reason. If you REALLY wanted to, just for fun, and you had a big stack of cash, you could. But, somethings are just pointless. It's really all up to you. Find some of the threads out there that have mentioned this before, and maybe you'll see what all would be involved.

Good luck

Hey killaqueenzpapi, glad to see you joined DSMTuners. This is AllWheelDSM from SFR. Your best bet is what these guys already told you. Find a GS-T, or a GSX. It's actually easier then it seems. Check out www.autotrader.com. I was searching the other day for a GST/GSX for a friend. There are a few of them within the state, some fairly cheap. Give it a look. :thumb:

In Boca. White 1995 Eclipse (Doesn't say whether it's a GST, or GSX). 167,000 miles which is high, but if you plan on buying Vinny's motor and swapping it, then that's not much to worry about. Asking $3200 obo. You should really look into this.
