I have a 420A motor with about 162k on it. not many mods, port and polished head, powder coated valve cover, new timing, but everything stock internal. and i guess i ran it with low or without any oil and now theres a loud ass knock. probably a rod knock. not to sure what the condition of the crankshaft is or rod(s), but i dont have the time to rebuild it. so i wanna sell it and get a new motor. but what could i get out of the motor as is?

Will send offer though PM, if Interested in shipping it. I would say $400-600 dollars from top to bottom including head "as is" and I am being easy about the price. Auto salvage yards would ask for the same price. Do not mean to offend you, but I would just rebuild and continue on with a DD.

I have purchased complete turbo engines for less than $150 in "unknown" condition. I picked up a complete 4g64 that needed a valve jod for $50. It's all what the buyer is willing to pay and how popular the engine is. So I can honestly say that rebuilding would be your best bet. You won't get 1/4 of what you need for a new engine in good condition.

I wouldn't pay more then $100 for a known blown motor.

These ain't hondas where its gold to every JDM kiddie that has to have one. Back when i ran hondas i had a EG hatch with a H22 swap, tanked my oil pan and spun a bearing. Sold the blown motor for $550 complete. But that was back during the H-series craze. These 420A's are more like a ragged on D-series in the honda world, they are everywhere and a dime a dozen, so not really worth that much in non running condition.

I understand exactly what you guys are saying and im not offended at all, youre giving the right advice. I know this place where they have motors for $250 a piece and they start them up and pull them out in front of you. and i didnt know if thats a good deal either? since id probs just do a bottom end rebiuld my self it would cost around $200-600 depending on what parts i can reuse or if i can just replace the ruined ones.

Personally I would go about $50 on a 420a w/ rod knock. But I buy engines all the time
