Adjustable fuel pressure regulator, when?

I dont think that the need for a AFPR comes at a certain turbo level, it really comes at a certain fuel pump level. If you get the 255HP or a Supra pump, you need the AFPR to lower the base pressure. I have heard that a supra pump will boost your base pressure to almost 60psi at idle and at that point is definatly not linear. I would say if you upgrade your fuel line to AN-6 then you also might want to upgrade the regulator as the stock one can only return so much fuel. Those are just opinions of me and I will not be held responsible if you dont find any results, but my opinion on things are that you have to have all the supporting mods before you can do the big power mods, not the other way around. I really can't stand folks that buy a huge turbo but run it at low boost because they do not have the supporting mods to run it properly.

I would agree............what would be the point, but some are always in a build up state and it takes sometime to get there and lots of money.

Well It looks like I committed your cardinal sin Killurv8. I got my mutt on a GB for 820 so I bought it but did not have any injectors or AFC. about 4 months after getting the turbo installed I got these items plus and EGT and a logger. I never had problems running it a 10psi.

Sometimes a good deal come up that you can't pass up.

but just cuz u bought it doesnt mean u had to install it :) j/k

so now im understanding this concept.. the 255+ fuel pumps need a FPR to lower the base fuel pressure but with my 190 I should be fine.. its adding up now ;)

btw GSTspeedracer, I dont quite get that either.. they say it on their site but from what ive heard, they dont offer it for the 2g yet..

The story on the 2G regulator is exactly this, it does not exist yet. I have a 1G regulator in my garage and a 1G rail on the way. You have to slightly modify the feed end of the rail (at least with a 1G throttle body) to make it fit. Other than that, the 1G rail and 1G regulator fit perfectly. Now I talk with Tony at Charged Air quite a bit and I was actually at his shop last Friday to pick up this regulator. Has told me that they have their first functional prototype in either today or tomorrow and as soon as it is cleared and working perfectly, it won't take long after that. I do aggree that they should not have released information about it before it was done but hey, some people make mistakes.

I have a review about this on dsmtalk. But I'll post the cliff notes here for those who don't care to go there.

I have a 2G TB and with a 1G Rail and reg on my car it fit perfect and cleared the timing cover no problem. Set the reg to 42psi. Had to add fuel at the higer rom's since the reg was not overrun anymore. Idle is better spool is better Overall car just runs better.

I emailed chargeair yesterday.................

Tony said they WILL have a 2G bolt-on......

just not yet........end of story!

so if you want it now! got go 1G route. If it was my turn at this item I would just wait for the 2G item, for ease of installing and less money cause a 1G rail is gonna cost you something.

sorry, I should have stipulated that a 1G throttle body and a 1G intake manifold caused the ISC motor to be too close to the head. The tabs for the fittings on each end on a 1G rail are angled differently where as they are alligned on a 2G rail. I have a moddified rail to begin with (an fittings) so I just trimmed one of those mounting tabs. In theory it should be no different because a 1G throttle body and 1G intake manifold should work with a 1G rail so I might have been dumb. I will have to look at it again.

Larryd,

U know what my car runs, what mods it has, and I don’t have a FPR installed on my car. I have one sitting in the garage with a FPR gauge. It’s not really worth putting it on, unless you really update the fuel hose. -6 or -8 SS line, about $500 if you do it right with A&N fittings.

Maybe one day, Ill put it on just for looks and a way to take out my 93 fuel so I can put in race gas.

My 1G rail was free and install only took 20min. So for me to have one now when I needed it was worth it and my car runs 110% better.

Yea, i have come to notice that. If you want your car to run correctly, you have to do it the right way, and the right way always cost so much more than the wrong way. LOL.

I am realizing that now so I am trying to do that from now on. Allows me to but more parts so that a good thing. :D
