Alright i love my dsm, its in amazing condition and drives smooth, the only problem not enough power. I am planning to add a turbo to my 90 gs but ive read that you cant, or shouldn't, why? If its the same motor and same setup why cant i strap on the 16g i want? What will happen if i do? I read that you should just buy a turbo dsm if you want to add a turbo, but i love mine and dont wanna get rid of it. So if i strap on a new turbo what exactly will go wrong with my car? I just wanna know for knowledge sake, alright thanks guys . :dsm:

ok man.....you have a 90 gs......if you have the 420a engine you cant put any thing bigger then a t-28 on cause it cant go past 8 psi unless you build the engine and thats expensive. If you have the 4g63 engine on your gs right now you can do it but you would need to get turbo camshafts, pistons and rods so it could handle the higher pressure. you can put that turbo on right now but it wouldn't be able to go past 8 psi i think for the 4g63's also. And buddy you cant just put a turbo on and it is set. You will need a mas(mass airflow sensor),a fmic i think for that big of a turbo,BOV,ic piping, turbo exhaust like downpipe, high flow cat etc...bigger injectors and fuel pump and maby FMU. Most of the first stuff you wont need unless you plan on making more then 8 psi. Good luck with that though man. any questions just pm me or post back up :thumb:

my friend with a civic put a garret T3 on his car and it hasn't been running for more than a few days at a time ever since. The head gasket blew, the clutch blew, etc.....
He had a good idea that these things would happen before he did the install, and he's mechanically inclined enough that he was prepared to deal with the problems if the DID break, but for someone in your position, you will probably find it much cheaper to just sell your car and buy a turbo.

Alright that did help , honestly how do i know which number engine i have, its the 2.0 liter dual cam, 135hp. And yeah i know i need the intercooler and wastegate and even blow off valuve, i was going to add new cams, shafts, valves and springs anyway, but deifntly thanks for following up on that. I dont know weather i want to get a side mount ic from either a junked car of just go balls to the walls and get a decnt nice one. I would also need to have the ecu changed no? i am really new to the dsm's and the whole car thing in general any help would be appreciated

yeh you would need a new ECU no doubt. Now a good way to tell if you have a 4g63 engine is by this.........if you have the purple one is a valve cover off a 4g63 engine and thats VERY good the red is off a 420a engine.....baadddd

420a(mine as well buy turbo car)=bad
4g63(easily made turbo)=good

haha awesome way of explaining it, i have the purple cover the 4g36. Alright so say i want to invest in a small 16g, obviously the FMIC, i would along with that need to change the fuel pump/injectors, cam gears and shaft, valves and springs, clutch and ecu? how muhc you think this would run me could i do it in stages? I am guessing if i do some of the work my self(i have a friend whos a mechanic) with install were looking at what 2-3 even 4 g's?

Just wanted to add that 1st gens never came with the 420a. It wasn't introduced until 1995. They either came with the 2.0 DOHC or 1.8 SOHC.

Save yourself the trouble...For the same price that it would cost to hook your N/T up with a turbo, along with the money you'd get for selling your car, you can find a pretty decent turboed DSM. I know you love your car & all, but once you feel how much faster a turboed DSM is than your GS, you'll have a new love!

Go for it, others have done it succesfully, even 1.8's have been done.

THere's lots of advice available, you need to go link in the NT section, it's there.

Also there are other sites for non turbos out there where people are doing it and discussing it.

yeah, hummmmmmmmmm, well i defintly could go out and buy my self the turbo dsm, it just then i would go out and buy my self a 2g eclipse, and then that would cost more money, then my insurance would go up, HUGE AMOUNTS! i pay 2300 a year now and for the turbo i would pay more than double that. New York Sucks! haha just kidding, but i thing for that price i could find my self a half decent turbo and intercooler, the whole thing about this car is its my project car i want to do a lot of the work myself. Alright guys thatnks for the help so far and i will deifntly check out the turbo secontion of this site

i have a 420a turbo, scoots pretty good, i don't red line it ever, i don't really beat it much at all, but, it feels reliable anyway, i have it at 5lbs. also, the 420a engine is UBER easy to work on, like, perfect begginers project

If your car is a 90 gs, you have the NT 4g63. From 90-94 there were only 3 engine options, a 1.8 engine, the non turbo 4g63 and the turbo 4g63. Go for a turbo swap man if that's what you want. Now I don't know much on 1g cars so I will toss this idea out there for possible ease. Let the more knowledgeable guys correct me on the 1g part but consider buying a wrecked turbo car and swapping the engine, trans, ecu, and wire harness to your car. Just a thought. Good luck on the path you choose.

^ Great info- but as I'm sure you didn't take notice, this thread is prehistoric. In fact, the person who responded to this ancient thread wasn't even old enough to drive when this thread was made.

I'll go ahead and close this to prevent any further incompetence.
