Hey, I am trying to install some gauges where the A/C controls would be a la attached picture. However, im not sure how to remove the black plastic surround. I popped off the plastic strip between the radio surround and the center consol/shifter surround and just unscrewed those 2 screws, but the top still feels tight, I dont want to pull on it too hard and break it, anyone know how to take it off/ have a write up for doing this? Thanks

there are 2 more screws between the instrument cluster and the center console(the other little black thing that pops off)...there also was 2 more screws behind the vent, but looks like that shouldnt be a problem for you...

Yea, I just figured it out, but thanks :D If anyone else is doing this, you might need to take off the shifter surround, theres 2 screws in that strip where the radio surround meets the shifter surround, and another screw under the ashtray, then you should be able to lift it out of the way.

n/p....just gotta take your time on it, there are lots of posts about taking off the dash...i like how easy it is, except some of the connectors are broken now because they ticked me off  everything works though....are you going to paint your dash while its off or just installing new gauges??

Yea it was a pain in the ass alright, I only lost one metal connector piece, so I had one extra screw, not bad for me, I HATE doing any interior work. I had planned on just installing the gauges, but upon removal, I realized my 52mm gauges dont fit too well in the 60mm openings ::smacks forehead:: So I put it all back together just fine, but pulled the radio out, never worked anyways. So I guess there was some progress. :p And I know how to do it for next time, So I dunno, anyone want some 52mm Autometer Sport Comp gauges or have some 60mm ones to sell? Ill figure out where to put it all once my palm pilot/datalogging stuff arrives. But painting it.. I never thought of that, maybe I will. Thanks for the help :thumb:

yea...i hate doing any electrical wiring(have blown 4 fuses trying to wire one thing up)...if you do decide to paint it, use krylon or dupli-color...take your time and clear coat stuff when you're done...i rushed a few parts, and it shows...but overall i like the finished product...and now i get to paint my friends laser's dash, since he liked mine so much...
