AC belt broke, car won't start now

I recently purchased a 99 eclipse GSX with 75k miles on it. Been keeping an eye on oil level, belts seemed good except the alternator belt screeching when I started the car when cold.
I was driving home last night, and the AC belt exploded, when I pulled over the car didn't die, but out of habit (dumb choice) I shut it off. After I shut it off then discovered it was only the AC belt it wouldn't start again. Timing belt and alternator belt are fine, just seems like maybe it ripped out the starter wiring or something? I had to have it towed home.

Could be any number of things Jeff. The AC belt as you mentioned should be on it's own, so if it blew it won't prevent the car from starting. I think your on the right track with looking for something the belt took out when it broke. The starter and wiring are on the passenger side of the car so those should be fine. See if you can turn the engine by hand with a wrench off the crank bolt to verify nothing is jammed. I had a power steering bolt jam a pully once which did what you explained. It put so much resistance on the engine it bogged down and stalled and obviously would not turn over until I fixed it.

Post some pics too, maybe we can see what's going on in there.

The crank shaft position sensor connector is above the a/c compressor it may have caught it broke the connector and/or the wires. It should be a triangular connector just like the a/c compressor uses. Also remove the old belt if its still down there.

With the crankshaft position sensor the motor should still turn over though, correct? I'll get some pics this weekend. Going to try to take a look tomorrow night after work

Your battery is probably dead and I bet your alternator either wasn't charging it, or the alternator bearing seized up
