fresh rebuild , payed 900.00 to ship it out to fl for college down there. i spent the last 8 months and 15,000 planning this trip and rebuilding this car. 472 miles after rebuild i noticed low oil pressure and a lack of power. i took it to a shop but by the time i got it there it was smoking and knocking . we compression tested the pistons and there all fine . theres a metalic shine to my oil also.



im pretty sure i know the answer but what dose this sound like to you?

Bearing problem. The only way to build any dsm is to either pay top dollar to a reputable shop, or do it yourself (properly). Most of the time a deal on a rebuilt engine is a bad one. I have many people call me back after saying i charge to much after their "deal" dies on the first startup.

100% ageed..you get for what you pay for..but on the other hand drop the pan and check the rod bearings...are you on a 6 or 7 bolt?

Sounds like they didn't torque, some or all of the mains/rods properly. That would be my best guess.

Most of my engines hit the track at 10 miles or less. Bearings do not break in. The only part in the block that breaks in is the piston rings. I have seen a lot of these engines that seem to have been assembled without a torque wrench (possibly a breaker bar) Rod bolts must be checked on a 6-bolt, and replaced everytime on a 7-bolt.
