a while I'm in there question

In the next few weeks I'll be doing a lot of work to my talon. Namely I'll be doing all the timing components, balance shaft removal, new piston rings, new gaskets (head, exhaust, intake, valve cover), full tuneup, etc.

Is there anything else that I should be doing while I've basically got everything apart like that? Any other bearings I should replace? Anything else to check? I don't want to pull the motor out of the car so a rebore w/ new oversize pistons is a no go unless I find out that the cylinder walls are particularly bad.

I purchased a cometic metal high pressure head gasket. How important is it to get the head resurfaced?

btw.. the car has 148k miles. Was stock until I got it. Seems to have been decently maintained.

i think its pretty important that you resurface the head (unless you like swapping headgaskets every time)
yes resurface the head so it sits proper on the new gasket that way you eliminate any chance of it leaking afterwoods

anything else I wanna do as far as things I should buy and replace?

I'm lucky enough to be within driving distance of Jacksons Auto Machine and Extreme. Should I take the head to them or will any machine shop do? I'm sure the cost will be higher at JAM or Extreme and turn around time will most likely be longer.

it all depends on what kind off budget you are
inspect your valves or upgrade,performance cams ,new seals that sort of things
while the head is off you might as well rebuild it

well I was thinking more along the lines of "should do" maintenance stuff.

I'm planning on getting a 6 bolt and building that up and dropping it in later on. I figure the stock bottom end should get me to 300whp or so, I just want to make sure I do the right maintenance things while I have it open and easy access to it.

you've pretty much covered it. I wouldn't replace the bearings unless they're showing abnormal wear signs, and if you do replace them, it'd be better to have the machine shop re-blueprint and balance the engine.

Clean off the pistons and make them nice and shiney again. just inspect and clean anything that shows abnormal gunkyness. Check your valve seals, make sure they're not leaking oil. Just good stuff like that.

That's what I was wanting to hear. I wouldn't have minded doing something else if it was imperative, but I've already got a lot on my plate now.. hehe

What about the oil pump? The car has 150k on it and I have no idea if this has ever been replaced. Should I replace that just for shits and giggles?
