I just bought a 97 rs eclipse and the a/t is stuck in 2nd gear i tried the shift solenoid and the speed sensors and then i even changed the whole tranny and it started to shift in the new tranny but then i got stuck in 2nd again so i dont know what to do can some one give me a clue to whats going on?

Sounds to me like it is probably in what is called 'limp mode'. Try searching for 'limp mode', and somebody correct me if i am wrong, but you can also read the trouble codes for your tcu with an analog multimeter.

You could try a new transmission computer. It's located on the firewall, behind the radio and things.

My car went into limp mode once but unhooking the negative on the battery overnight cured that. Can't be much wrong if you replaced the tranny.

ill try the tcu and then some one told me my ecu might be bad so i dont know im hoping i find this out soon

You should really check those transmission codes. You probably didn't need to replace the transmission. The only reason it started out shifting correctly at first, is because you probably disconnected the battery when you swapped the transmission. As soon as you started driving, the TCU identified a problem again, and it went back into limp mode.

About half of the transmissoin faults of this nature,(at least the ones that show up at my shop) turn out to be a bad shaft speed sensor signal. If your replacement came with sensors, you might just have a short or open somewhere. If you retained the sensors from the old transmission, you probably took the problem, and screwed it into your replacement transmision. The first step is to read the codes, and see what the TCU is complaining about.

Limp mode is right.

Unfvck your avatar pic...that is not your car.

i have taken it to a shop and they couldn't read it thats why they told me to change the ecu but i have changed it and still the same thing

Your ecu shouldn't have anything to do with your transmission. Im guessing they meant TCU. If they tried to read your tcu codes and got nothing, then your tcu is probably garbage.

I'm willing to bet it's the TCU. Mine has done the very same thing, it kept popping ECU's, like almost instantly. Come to find out it was the IAC motor, but before I could change it out, it had screwed the TCU as well. It started going into Limp Mode at random, and then I would leave it, it would work for a bit, go into limp mode. Eventually it stuck into limp mode while driving, and even if I left the negative terminal unhooked for three weeks, it would start right up in limp mode.

Take the TCU out OP, open it up and give it a good look. Don't screw with anything, just look inside it to see if anything is leaking. Look for clear brown stuff on any of the board, or burn marks/fishy smell.

i got everything handle guys i appreciate all the help it was a wiring flaw the ground wasn't hooked up on my tcm...how about that something so simple messed up so much...LOL...i put so much money in this car that wasn't necessary but no i have a spare auto tranny and tcm
