Edmontn,
I was looking at a 1996 Eagle Talon and the guy said that the A/F Ratio was having problems. He is getting 95 miles per gas tank. How much would it cost to repair, approximately. Are there any issues of purchasing a car that has this problem? Any help would be great, Thanks.

If the AFR is "having problems" and he's only getting 95miles per tank, that sounds like the "having problems" means "is way too low". I'd guess it's because of a big boost leak. The problem for you is that the boost leak tester is usually something you make, and after doing the test, you detect leaks here and there that have to be fixed. Once they're fixed, you can re-evaluate whether or not there are still other problems. But since you don't own the car, how can you do this? I don't know. If he's quoted the problem in terms of "having problems" then he may not have done a boost leak test before. If you can convince him that selling the car to you is worth it for him to be going through the hassle of doing the test and fixing the problems, that'd be best.

It could also be a faulty front O2 sensor.

It could also be many other things.

How is the car other than that?

Repair's can range from free to thousands of dollars. You need to first know why the fuel economy is so poor; as others have pointed out, there are a countless number of things that can cause poor fuel economy.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know too much more about the car then that. I was planning to do all stage 1 upgrades so that would solve the 02 sensor problem. And boost would be checked out.Thanks.
