Woodstock,
Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself properly, the name is Peter. Anyways i just got a 1990 eagle talon tsi, fwd with 179,000 km on it and i got a few questions towards my tune-up! Okay what is the best oil to use in a turbo car (this is my first turbo) cuz i was thinking like mobil 1 5w30 or something like that. I am changing the timing belt, balance shaft belt, air filter, spark plugs, wires, some hoses, all fluids. I am also getting a compression test done and a leak down test as well and i will check my timing too. Now have i forgotten anything important or do i have everything covered. Now i realize that i bought an old car with an engine that has probably been to hell and back but it seems to run good for the most part and i just wanted something fun but cheap and plus there is always the alternative of getting a new 4g63 swapped into my car if there is something terribly wrong with it, right?!! Anyone who has some advice towards what kind of oil, transmisson fluid and spark plugs, etc then please do not hesitate to help me out! thanks in advance!!!!!!

welcome to the DSM family. Synthetic is good for turbo cars because it is harder for it to coke up at higher temeratures like regular can. If you were going for performance I would say go ahead and remove your balance shafts if you are going that far with the belt, that way that is one less thing to worry about later on. The 90 4G63T engine is very strong and reliable. It will hold 400hp in stock form and the sky is the limit when tuning it. You did say you were replacing the water pump right? You might as well do that, and I suggest that you replace it with mitsubishi OEM rather than advanced auto junk. I would also change the other timing belt components with OEM parts because the off brand stuff is ok but I like to work on things once and be done with it ;) Redline gear oil is good for the tranny also. You are taking the right route with this tune up, so you should have another nice DSM on the road to torture the rice rockets!

wow thanks for the awesome reply, much appreciated. You mentioned that synethic is much better, now can i use the 5w30 high mileage oil like i asked about before or should i go with a more performance oriented viscosity oil? thanks again for a great reply! btw are NGK spark plugs good to use instead of factory ones?
