Ok, I got myself a 95 AWD Eclipse GSX setup to get within the next 2 weeks. So I'm starting to really dig into these forums and read all that I can and start making a wishlist. I'm going to post a few parts that I have come up with after reading and shopping around for and I got a few questions I would like to ask that are just still weary to me yet. I won't post all my not so sure yet questions since my list would be huge. So here I go.

MHI EVO III 16G - This turbo on ww.slowboys.com has 4 options for it Wastegate, Polishing, Porting Inlet, Porting Outlet. I'm going to have it ported inlet and outlet not going for polish looks don't really matter for me. But the waste gate has 2 options for internal wastegates and then it has manifold wastegate and O2 Housing Wastegates.

Now the wastegates....Here is where I'm weary at this do I have a option to have the wastegate on the manifold or the 02 housing? If so which one would be better? I think both is needed if you want a really high end car. But EVO III 16G is probable the biggest I'm going to go for. I hear people saying the external wastegate on a 02 housing is extremely loud I like that :) But its not like the pssssssssht sound the BOV makes is it? And I know I could be mixing alot of stuff together but this is the best way for me to learn how to do something talk to people on forums and learn it from people who have done it and know what they are doing same way I learned to build my first computer :)

Denjen 2g Curved Intake Pipe 2 3/4 - Ok simple question on this. This is the part connected to the turbo to breath in the air correct? And the Cold Air Intake is a totally different thing? But when I look at other DSM members vehicle profiles they have the BOV on there Cold Air Intake. So why is there a option on the Intake pipe for a BOV tube.

GReddy Type RS Blow Off Valve - Pretty simply just a BOV I suppose if anyone wants to slap me for saying that I'm all game. :)

Ok my next query is on the exhaust. I found 2.5" Aluminized w/ O2 Eliminator this is from the turbo all the way back. Aluminized yes due to money. For the setup above is this good and with the 02 Eliminator does that just mean it replaces the stock 02 or what sorry confused.

Cast Manifold w/ 7cm Gasket - This is anyother one that goes with the wastegate looks like a good manifold options are to port it or get the wastegate hole drilled & pretapped. I suspect to get it ported but the wastegate not sure will know when I get the top question answer on the turbo :)

Well for now that is it I know there is many other things I need to get yet boost gauge, boost controller, etc. But I'm not going to ask more questions and dig myself a bigger hole when someone shows me that the direct answer I need is posted somewhere else. So I'm sorry if it is but Its 12:30 and I been reading for about 2hrs so LOL.

Thank You!

Whew, where to start at.
The turbo, when going with the Evo3, like you said, definitely go with the inlet/outlet ported. The external wg does sound different but another thing you may be thinking of is an o2 dump, where your o2 isn't recirculated. Quite loud.

The Intake pipe is exactly what it says, it is there to connect your air filter to the turbo. A cold air intake is different as most people use this when they have a front mount. It's basically set-up where you use no MAS on the intake itself and the filter mounts in the stock side mount position. There is a spot for the BOV to recirulate the BOV, which is a must, unless your running the MAFT, blowthrough set-up. If this is not connected (the hose from the BOV to the intake, it's considered venting, which is :nono: )

The o2 eliminator does exactly that. It in essence, eliminated your o2 housing and makes your o2 and downpipe all one peice. I don't use it but I have never heard anything bad about them.

The manifold is definitely a good thing. I would recommend either SBR manifold or even an Evo manifold. They are both cast and have had good success. Unless your going with an external WG for the turbo, you don't need to have a manifold flanged for one.

Basically, unless your running a decently sized turbo, there is no need for an external WG. There are some instances where that is not the case but that is usually rule of thumb that it isn't necessary. Before you start modding your car, make sure it's tuned up and you have a logger and gauges. :thumb:

Thanks for that information it has cleared a few things up for me speciall the o2 eliminator, and the intake.

Here after reading about the waste gate is what I have in mind so clear it up if im still wronge. If I just get a internal wastegate then I dont need to have the 02 houseing and the manifold made to have a external wastegate. But If I want a external wastegate I need both the 02 houseing and the manifold preped for a wastegate. And Either way there is no 2 places for the wastegate to go those 2 peices just need to be made for a external wastegate and the wastegate obviously just goes in one spot. Thats where I was confused that there may be 2 places for a wastegate. But as I was reading I guess it couldn't go somewhere else since it needs to be between the turbo and the exhaust.

Ok but when I look on other peopls cars the BOV seems to be places on the cold air intake that is connected to the back of the motor and not the intake which is connected straight to the turbo? Why is this? Or am I still confuseing something here.

An external gate is only placed in one spot. Most people opt for putting it on the manifold as it gives a little more room to work with then putting it on the o2 housing. With an internal gate, you do not need to have any sort of flanges on the manifold or o2 housing.

With your question about the intake, your confusing it with an UICP (upper intercooler pipe). The intercooler has both an upper and lower pipe. The lower pipe (if your still stock, it will be a hose) runs from the turbo to the INLET of the IC and the upper pipe (same as lower, could be a hose) runs from the OUTLET of the IC, up to the throttle body. This is where they place the BOV at.

Ok...So you are asking why the BOV is connected to the intake that goes to the manifold? That is because it is to release the pressure in the lines when you close the throttle body plate so it doesn't bounce back off of it and go back through the turbo system and give you compressor surge. If you put it on the actual intake it wouldn't do anything. I think you have the upper intercooler pipe and the intake mixed up.

Not to be an ass or anything but I would seriously recommend getting some sort of turbo "How To" book or read up on the internet exactly how they work. Will make the car so much simpler and once you realize how it all works it makes tuning and working on a car a whole lot easier.

I agee with you your not being an ass at all im really jumping the gun here but I know what you mean once I begin to work and understand something it will all start to fit into place and with the intake I understand know that its placed where it is so it dosen't go back into the turbo :) Thanks for the help!

I probably wouldn't jump right into a new turbo. I would first get a boost gauge and boost controller. Then get your intake and upper intercooler pipe with either a 1g BOV or a Greddy Type-S and upgrade your downpipe and rest of the echaust. I recommend 2.5" downpipe and 3" catback. The Type RS is about the most worthless thing Greddy has ever put out. Read up on them on here. It's about 50/50 on people who like them and people who hate them. Never hear complaint's about the Type-S or 1g BOV. Then you can start upgrading your turbo along with fuel pump and a fuel controller of sorts. For someone just starting an SAFCII is a good and easy starter tuning tool. RRE has a guide on there website on how to tune with it. Start little and then start on the turbo upgrades. Basic bolt-on's will net a lot of power on these cars.

I was thinking of a TurboXS RFL BOV.

And for the boost guages and controllers I know there is mechanical and electronical which im proble going to go with electronical for now since im just starting and not going to be pushing high psi boost for awhile yet. But what is a good realiable brand of gauges thats not really expensive but also not crap?

Do NOT get the RFL. You can not recirculate it and it will then vent, which throws the Mass Air Flow sensor off because it's not receving all of the metered air. Stick with a 1g BOV, they work wonders. If you want it to be loud, do some modding. I have a 1g BOV and although it's a different noise, when mine blows off, it's actually louder then some of the Greddys.

As far as gauges, just go with an AutoMeter set. They work fine. There is no need to spend a bunch of money on gauges unless your going for looks or you have alot of extra money.

Thank you for the information on the BOVs and the Gauges. I do like to have a good sounding BOV but thats not as important as quality. Umm I heard that wastegates can make loud noises aswell. I know the BOV is the one with the psssht sound :p But whats the wastegate sound like that everyone says can get really annoying on some types?

The gauge I found is a 0-30psi C2 Autometer for 200.00 :p that sound right?

dont worry about the bov noise you cant vent untill you have setup yourself with a gm maf. as far as the o2 dump you can use it with either internal or external wastegate, and it basically lets almost all the your exhaust out that one little tube instead of going threw the turbo so that the boost stays at a steady level. so it is only loud at full boost :thumb: i also suggest getting a 1g bov will work fine for up to 17-18 psi as is. antoher reson for running an external waste gate is to eliminate boost creep which seems to happen allot with these 16g's when the exhaust is messed with. so if you plan on getting an exhaust ahd running internal wg id play it safe and keep the stock o2 housing unless you wanna run external wg just so you dont have a possibility of getting boost creep problems.

:laser:

Where can I find this so called 1g BOV or does it come with the 2g Intake already?

1g bov refers to the bov off of the 90-94 DSM's have to get a flange for it to fit a 2g. Look in the classifieds for one.
