Needing a little guidance on parts choices. I recently yanked the 6 bolt out of my 91 tsi. I bought another 6 bolt swap that has had head rebuilt and timing belt replaced in the last 5000 miles. I am wondering what I need to get for this car before I swap in the motor. I currently have a fmic, safc2, greddy electronic boost controller, and a 16g turbo. I am looking at roughly a 2000 budget and have spent 800 so far. I am planning on doing a 2g maf set up so i need guidance on fuel pump and so on.

You shouldn't need anything if you are just swapping the motor which both are 6 bolts.

I was mainly looking for cheaap upgrades to do while i had the motor out as well as getting exactly what I need to upgrade to the 2g MAF

First thing to note is that, unless you're gonna modify the short-block in some way (e.g. bs elimination, oil-cooler, etc) there's nothing that needs to be done before you put the engine in. And if you're happy with your clutch and transmission then you can go ahead and put it all back together and then proceed to modify. That said, if you're still on an OEM clutch you're gonna go through that thing really fast if you start turning up the boost on the 16g so I'd look into an ACT 2100 at the very least.

For the 2G maf (or evo/3g for that matter) you will need an adapter harness and you'll need to have the ECU chipped to compensate for the new Hz/CFM values. While you're at it you should be thinking about injectors. You can get FIC injectors in 650cc/min or 750cc/min from MAPerformance for $250 shipped to your door. They have a great warranty and are flow-matched to w/in 2%. Throw in an upgraded fuel-pump and an afpr and you'll be ready to take that 16g as far as it'll go. You will of course need an upgraded exhaust system to take advantage of the above mentioned items but that should be on your list anyway.

As for the tuning options. IMHO your best bang for your buck on a 16g car is going to be DSMChips.com for a simple "reflash" that accounts for your MAF and injectors while also making your fuel tables a little more aggressive and adding a few "bonus features". You could pair that with your SAFC for some fine tuning but many (myself included) do just fine w/ no dynamic tuning at all. You could also, if you feel the need, invest in ECMLink's new v.3Light which costs a little over half of the full v.3 and is still a very nice setup. This would cost even less (effectively) since it would make your SAFC uneccessary and you could resell it to recoup cost.

If there's anything left you need to think suspension. Actually, if it were me I'd have done suspension before I even ditched the 14b but that's a matter of preference. First thing is anti-sway bars (back then front). Then you'll want stiffer springs and shocks and some kind of camber kit for the front. And of course, the single most important suspension factor, tires.

Thanks I appreciate it! My original plans when I bought the car for $500 with a spun balance shaft bearing were to do suspension and brakes. But my deployment to Iraq was bumped up to Feb instead of May so my wife wants the car running before I leave that way it doesn't sit in the driveway for a year. I already have the balance shaft delete kit and just bought a fidanza clutch and flywheel that's brand new from a local guy that ordered the wrong one for $300. The 16g and other mods came with the car when i bought it. I picked up the 6 bolt swap for 700 shipped. So far I am around a grand with about another grand in my budget.

^^ I see. If it were me I'd just get it running with the swap (after doing the BS delete and possibly a newer/better clutch) and not worry about the modding till you get back. That way you don't get stuck w/ an unexpected problem and no time to fix it before you leave. Plus, I don't think you should ever modify a car that isn't already in working order.
