After digging around I found a motor I'm going through for my 96 Tsi I just bought and there are just a few things I'm having trouble deciding on so I'm looking for input. Pay no attention to my profile because that was another car and I'm starting over. This only has to do with the motor build for now so I'm not listing a clutch or anything like that. Biggest thing I'm looking at is my cam setup and research on it is driving me up the wall.

6 bolt block
stock crank
eliminate b/s
ACL race main and rod bearings
ARP head,main,rod studs
forged rods and pistons (not sure which rods or pistons yet as well as compression ratio) (input please)
stock 6 bolt head
6 bolt intake manifold (hopefully smim in the far future)
90 throttle body
wally 255
Aeromotive fpr
injectors (best deal I can find over 750cc)
cams???? (input please)
FP race manifold
PTE GT3251
custom exhaust (no emissions here)
RNR race intercooler
short route piping
HKS SSQV
GM maf
all controlled with ECM Link

Think that about gets it. This car will be mainly a daily driver (but not only vehicle) that only sees a 1/8th mile drag strip a few times a year. My goal is to make good use out of everything and keep it dependable (for a DSM anyway):p so no certain hp number or track time goal. Just a good build thats powerful but streetable. Biggest ????'s are cams and compression ratio. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks everybody

If your looking more street then the 264/272 combo will work good. But with the turbo you have planned, the 272/272 would make that puppy scream up top.

One thing I forgot to list is titanium springs and retainers which really is a given with a cam but anyway with that and forged rods and pistons I figure 9 could be handled but not seen often. Yes I do plan on this being way more of a DD than anything but want the most balls I can for the street

what shape is the head in?

Have you measured the head thickness?

what spring /retainers are you thinking of using? I like the BC spring/retainer set up but if you want a more upscale set up, look at the ferrea beehive spring and retainers

what about valves?

do you want to move to bronze guides?

read thu this....

what machine work do you plan on having done?

you should have the bottom end balanced, Pressure plate, flywheel, crank, rods, pistons, balancer

if you go with Hbeam rods, you will not need ARP rod bolts, most aftermarket Hbeam rods come with them installed.

personally. as far as comp goes, I would keep it down around 9;1 -9.5:1 so you will have a bit easier time with tune and avoiding pre-det/knock

Haven't measured thickness yet but I did pull the head today and did see it has been redone like my buddy said with no miles back on it. All I know for sure about the work is new values and he paid 450 for what work was done.

As far as money I am on a budget but want to do it right. I'm not planning on going over 500whp so from what I have read the stock crank should be fine. Again I have intentions on this being just a fun car that gets drove a lot and not a race car. I'm thinking my rough goal is 400whp detuned and close to 500 turned up. Again that's just a number I'm throwing up there and not a actual for sure want number.

I would not recommend getting a '90 throttle body, as they're the odd ball. I would suggest getting a '91-'94 turbo or N/T throttle body.

I agree but I have a 90 Tsi I'm robbing on motor out of so its kinda already there or I wouldn't be using it.

measure the thickness of the head and post that info and shots of the head

how is the surface finish of the head?

do the oil port mod #1
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/341028-4g63t-head-oil-port-mod.html

get adjustable cam gears, and degree the cams when you build

I'll try to get pics and measurements here in a few days. Thanks for the help everybody!
