A/F ratio gauge problems

I just installed a new A/F ratio gauge and now my car acts like it wants to cut off when i start it but when i cut the car off and start it again it does it fotr a sec and then its fine and also the gauge cuts off when im not on the gas but when i tap the gas it comes back on what did i do wronge and can anyone help me fix it..? i have a 98 gst eclipse

Where is the purple wire hooked up to? We need some more details on where you hooked it up.
