I just bought a 99 Eclipse GS, for a great price, but the engine is taken out, I have the engine, but it needs to be worked on, not sure what all is wrong yet, because I havent picked the engine up. But getting to the point, with the 420a chrysler it came with, should I invest to repair it, or get something different? I am looking for value and performance, would it be better to repair this and tune and mod it, or tune and mod something else.
I am new to the tuner side of things, I saved $ during my tour in Iraq and when I came back bought and restored a 1962 Nova but thats a totally different world.

I live in South Florida, So would also like to meet some people in my area (Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale) who enjoy working on thier cars, ect.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

I have the engine and transmission to the car. but it was removed already. The engine blew the water pump on new years, and my friend drove it hot home (not far) the next day it didnt start, long story short I bought it super cheap, I am new to the tuner world, I have worked on muscle cars frequently though, I own a 62 Nova. What I need help with in deciding, is should I repair the 420A, or put something differnt in there. I read already about all the fabrication to make stuff fit ect. I want a nice car, at an affordable price. So I am thinking, my best bet would just fix the stock engine, and follow the mod guide on here, ( Tech Guide: 2G 420A Power Upgrades - DSMtuners ). So I would like some opions on what to buy, and any other suggestions.

Well, unless you're willing to do a lot of work (and I mean, a lot), the 420a is your only option.

The 4G63 does not mount up without a bunch of modification and a bunch of money.

You could always turbo the 420a if you want something a bit faster with spending minimal money.

It depends on what yu will be happy with performance-wise. The 420a, with a lot of work done will just barely break into the 200hp mark without nitrous. If you are content with that, then go for it. If you dont think you will be, and will want to go faster down the road (which most all people do) then I would not spend the time on that engine, and would instead look for a turbo eclipse/talon. The cost and time of turbo-ing a N/T is not worth it IMO, which is why I suggest an eclipse/talon that was turbo from the factory.

I have read that several places now. And that may be what I do in the future, just buy another car. But for the moment this is what I have to work with. And I got it for a steal, so I dont mind doing some work to it. And it will be a nice little intro into the tuner world.
