420A 99 Eclipse GS 10th anniversary edition

So, I bought a 99 gs 10th anniversary edition yesterday and on my way home, I lost 4th and overdrive and as that happened all my gauges started fluctuating up and down and all the dash lights began to blink and now it won't start. Anyone have any ideas?

Check your battery connections first.

After checking your battery, get a scanner on it that can read transmission codes. My scanner won't even tell me I have transmission faults and luckily it got scanned at a friend's shop and I ended up with 4 codes. Diagnosis can't truly begin until you know if you have codes or not.

Speaking of which, does anyone make a cheap code reader that can read transmission codes as well? It's kind of a PITA taking it back and forth to a shop, especially when you're diagnosing or trying to fix a problem. I'm talking cheap, like the $30-50 obd2 code readers.

^^ That would be awesome, but mine was in the $200 range and still doesn't have that ability.

Try checking the fuse box for any burned fuse. I had a similar issue, replacing them fixed the problem. The main cause was the alternator fuse, in total I had 5 burned fuses. Hope this helps.
