I have the gst and my friend has a mustang. I have to question which is better stock and which is better to mod?

Take them to the track and find out.

Then mod them and figure out who spent the least vs the most gains.

GT is faster stock vs stock but put $250 or less to do a 14b swap and the gst will take the stang....there's nothing that you can do to a stang for $250 or less that would equal gains lidentical to a 14b Turbo swap.

I did my swap for under $200

^^ hey dont kill us Justin! At 19 pounds i dont spin, i break loose at the top of first, but not real bad, and small chirp second. But im not making "real power" yet. Soon to come tho...soon.

But from a roll....i have walked to many mustangs.

now some may disagree with me, but, i belive the same thing with a RWD car as well. if your putting down too much power and your not a pro at launching it, there will be some wheel spin.

This whole thread reeks of bench-racing, but I have to get my .02 cents in.

Yes and no. There will inevitably be some spin, but when a car accelerates, the load transfers from the front to the back wheels due to the accelerating force. Watch any vehicle take off, you'll see the front end lift up. Because of this, more weight is actually placed on the rear wheels. Using an anti-lift/caster kit can help reduce this lift during accelerating (and also help reduce the dive during braking).
Plus there is no torque steer in a RWD car which, in the realm of higher horsepower, is a plus.

Getting better weight distribution in a RWD (versus a FWD) is also much easier. The engine can be moved farther back as well as the transmission.

Still get some wider tires in the front and a 14b with basic Mods (intake, exhaust, ect.) Don't forget a boost gauge and you will pull on stangs all day.

if theres any question in your mind of which to go with please go with the mustang. ive never had a question in my mind and a real dsmer would not either. i would go gst and i would never consider a 99 mustang convert

I drove a 98 mustang gt with the 4.6l in it and it was SLOW. Now it was an automatic but even in first gear it was totally dogging it. My gst makes me very happy when I drive it compared to that mustang.

mustangs are not bad. dsm are not bad. stock head to head the stang will pull on the gst. put a little more MONEY (not parts, cause it costs so much more to build a stang) and the gst will be well more equipped than the stang. it will pull on that v8. put more money into play and the v8 will win FROM A DIG. hands down. we (fwd) mostly spin. alot. haha. but do a roll and the gst will win. no doubt about that man.

BASICALLY:

stock to stock = mustang win. maybe. also depends on driver.
small amount of cash for mods = gst win. for sure.
larger amount of cash for mods = mustang win from dig. gst win from roll.

end.

Pretty much... ive NEVER lost a race to a mustang.

Except that 2010 Shelby gt500 with God knows what was done to it...

If me and Justin are writting in here, im pretty sure its safe
Oh I never said it wasn't a bench racing thread....it's pretty much bench humping at this point.

If I had Moderator duties I'm pretty sure it would either be closed or merged to the Official Bench Racing thread at this point. Why? These threads never end well. There is no right answer so it will never be "resolved", and should have been started in the Hangout to begin with.
