gst vs gst convertible

I'm selling my gst hardtop and i'm looking into buying a spyder, but i was wondering except for the weight what are the differences? I've heard the body is more reinforced but is it the same dimensions? Will my traction problems being fwd be even worse than with my hard top if i get a spyder?

The only difference i can think of besides being heavier would be suspension, the hardtop is of course stiffer than the spyder, not to say a spyder cant handle well but stock vs. stock we all know the hardtop is where its at. I would also have to say that most tracks dont allow convertibles but maybe that doesnt bother you like it does me.

well i'm looking to mod the suspension to make the car handle above average and mayb get 350hp out of it + limited slip : /, just looking to mod a car until im done with college and can offord an evo

the spyder weight only 150 more than the hardtop so its not a big difference. I did a canyon run with this guy who had a GST hardtop and i i kept up with him turn for turn. He got me on the straights since he had a Big T-28. Also, the chicks dig Da DrOpToP

yeah im thinking it's summer and having a convertable would feel cooler than being able to say i have awd. and who knows if this works out maybe i could do an awd conversion in a couple of years

If you go to the track you will need a cage well before a hardtop will. i have seen one spyder with a cage and the top down cruising around and it looked kinda neat, but seemed to get away from the point of the spyder.

I would get a gsx but i cant find any in my area for cheap my cars gonna be gone saturday *crosses fingers* and i need one asap, found two spyders, so drop top and competition for srt-4's. Maybe i can get an awd for a second car after i pay this one off. will a rollcage actually help to stiffen the body of the car?

Yes, but wh you drop the top do you want a cage popping up all the time?

i dont know what it is but ive smoked every gsx at the track that i have ran up against.. my best is a 9.0 with the 14b turbo and a 9.4 with the t25 (in a 8th), i dont know if the guys dont know how to drive or if im that good ;x j/j but seriusly i havent been beet buy a gsx/hard top gs-t yet.

A few of my buddies have GSTs & same mod for mod I'm faster. They both have 95s(2G) GSTs. HWY & from dead stop. Dunno why but maybe its cause my car is newer? We also ran at Rockfalls Raceway in Wisconsin. The two 95 GSTs ran low to 15 flats & I ran 14s. I guess it just depends on driver & car.

BUT GST vs Convertable? If it wasn't convertable/turbocharged I wouldn't of even gotten an Eclipse.

yeah, someone test drove my hard top gst yesterday and is buying it , i went and test drove the spyder, it's that shiny red color and has 89k miles, think i'll be getting it . AWD would be cool, but i'll save up after i pay this car off for a used evo mr .

I must say, I had a Dakota that ran 8.900 in 1/8 and I would still have that truck which I had sense bran-new in 98 for 145K miles if it wasnt for my Spyder. When I found it this March I knew very little about DSMs but now I am so hooked! I am working on gathering the parts for my AWD conversion right now. Bout to drop in my roll cage real soon. Cant wait.

Anyways in my opinion, you can tune any car to do pretty much what ever you want it to do. If you have imagination, and skill/money you will make something special to you. And isnt that what it's really all about?

That being said. The spyder has the CHICK factor down baby!

Other than the wieght of only 150 lbs more, and a little difference in stock suspension (which should be replaced anyways, stock ) the Spyder would be the way to go. I mean, think about being able to roll around, chicks checking you out all the time, and always asking for rides ...how can you go wrong? Anyways, just like 98spyderboost said, you can do pretty much anything to any car. You really can't go wrong getting any DSM but why not add the drop top as an extra bonus? I have ahd mine for around 18 months now, and am definitely hooked!

i think if you have a dsm it needs to be awd or a spyder. in my case i would personally rather have a gsx or tsi awd. i tried to find one but just couldnt. living in south florida at the time, not many people had the need for an awd 2g. so i just bought this car. its even an automatic, and i love this thing. you cant go wrong with any dsm turbo, but go for the awd or drop top.

I am with you guys. I have had my Spyder now for about 6 months and I am hooked. I was looking at hard tops as well and Awd's but that test drive with the drop top put me on Spyder lock down. I am so thankfull that I made that choice. It does seem that the differences of the Spyder make it a little more difficult in deciding what suspension set-up to go with though.

In your case i would especially go with the Spyder version. You live in Georgia and would utilize the drop top alot more. I live in michigan and would not like having a convertable in the snow and 10 degree weather. Go AWD or Drop-Top!
