So my friend just bought a 2002 Camaro, it's the 6cyl one. We decided to race after work today to see what his newly bought car was capable of. My cars mods : 1st gen bov, manual boost controller, intake, catback exhaust. His car is completely stock.

We raced from a stop and I easily got a 1 1/2 car length on him. However, when I get to about 5000 RPM @ 3rd gear he just passes me like nothing. I expected more from my car, oh well.

Anyone else have any similar encounters w/ Camaros?

Do you guys think I'll be able to beat him w/ a small 16g?

You shouldn't loose to any V6 camaro.

Hmph, maybe something is wrong with my car then because he passes me like nothing when I'm about to shift into fourth?

You shouldnt lose to any V6 Camaro..there slow heavy POS. I beat V6 Camaros modded or not modded all the time by 4-6 cars while im in 3rd gear. Maybe his car is modded the hell out of (sleeper look), or Maybe something is wrong with yur car..expecially with your boost. Maybe its a boost leak. I dk..but you should have no problem with a v6 camaro man. They are slow slow slow and very slow..ive also beaten one in my friends GSR back when it was completely stock by 2 1/2 cars.

i raced my friend's modded v6 firebird the other day, when i had a busted spark plug (only fired 50% of the time) and i beat him by 3 cars. you should have no problem with a v6 camaro! i was running on 3.5 cylinders and i beat him!

I don't know what the hell is up. At WOT my boost guage holds at 14 for about 2 secs then settles at 10. I'm on the stock turbo.

Maybe I'm not shifting right...

I was with him when he bought it and it is completely stock.

2 things, check for a boost leak then get a better BOV, the stock one leaks at like 14 psi and may be causing this, a 1st gen BOV is what you should get unless you want to pay 2 hundred extra for sound. O cool, nice choice of rims and tires, hehe:cool: Something else you should know about the stock turbo, once you rev up over 6k your boost will fall off a few psi and thats normal.

Oh okay. But I do have a 1st generation blow off valve. Still don't understand how he pulls on me like that in third gear.

Hmph, any links on how to check for a boost leak?

I would certainly get this matter checked out. It just isnt possible to lose to a stock V6 Camaro if your a good driver..hell even bad drivers that do misshifts whoop V6's ass. You have 2 mods done to your car..you should easily have a 4-5 car lead at the end of 3rd gear man. Most of the horsepower used on the v6 camaro is used to haul its fat heavy ass..they almost way 4000 pounds, or more or less, i dk. But they are super slow man..even the z28's have tough time running against stock DSM's, ive seen this happen man. But there is no excuse for this..you just shouldnt lose to a V6 Camaro..something is definitely wrong with yur car. And i think its a boost leak. Get it checked out. Dont make your friend feel special that he beat a modded DSM with his V6, id let him know that something is wrong with yur car..his win against u was a fluke..and i can bet u on that. Only way to lose to a stock V6 camaro..is if u forgot a shift or something and let the car keep revving all the way to 9000 RPM and somehow blow your engine..there you go, what was once 8 cars behind u now has all the time in the world to cross the finish line, while your sitting there with your engine blown.

Yea, it feels like my car should be a lot faster then it actually is. Whaaa.

Yeah sucks to be slow!!! But im sure youll recover from it and whoop your friends Heavy V6.

two other things to check that might be slowing you down...
1. spark plugs and wires. you might need new ones!
2. phantom knock tripping the knock sensor and retarding your timing. i was tripping the sensor with my damn lifter tick, but now its gone and i got a whole new beast.

kind of irrelevant but how did your lifter tick stop and correct your timing? I think this is wrong with my car, please pm me and help me:(

Oil change and use really good oil and filter, clean the lifters, just buy new ones or change oil/buy new ones change oil/clean old ones. After a few oil changes on my car mine went away, i use mobil 1 10w-30 full synthetic and mobil one filters although there filters dont seem to be the best out there, next time im gonna try Mitsubishi or K&N oil filters.

i just got new lifters, but some claim that changing to mobil 1 will get rid of the tick. i still have the tick when i start my car up... but i got another 100 miles till they are broken in. if you dont mind taking off your valve cover you can clean them or you can get new ones. i also heard that the 3g lifters will work and that they are always quiet, but i am not 100% sure about that and one should research it.

What is this "tick" you guys are talking about?

For some reason I hear this bell sounding noise coming from my engine. It really is the weirdest thing.

What is your guys' technique on shifting? Do you:

GAS
CLUTCH
LET OFF GAS SLIGHTLY'
SHIFT
DROP CLUTCH AND PUNCH IT

when i shift, i:
drop off gas pedal
clutch in quick
throw into gear (yes, i really throw my shifts...)
clutch out and give gas

i have awd and id like to not see tranny and transfer case peices lying on the road behind me. i also double clutch to down shift so i can save my synchros, keep my speed, and not jerk the car. you do that by basically:
clutch in and go to shift at the same time
blip the gas to bring up the revvs
fully put into gear and release the clutch and give it gas.

that takes practice, but once you get used to it, it becomes habit and your tranny will love you.

No LS1 Z28 has trouble beating a stock DSM, they run low 13s BONE STOCK.

oh man....hell, I have a mirage and can beat stock V6 cameros!

Something is definatly up dude....

V6 camero
0-60: 9.0
1/4 mile: 16.6
hp: 160

R&T says so!

Check for boost leaks and remember that stock your boost drops off around 5500 RPM's. Also launching the GS-T with all our torque isn't always the easiest thing to do. Is wheel spin an issue?:dsm:

He has the 3.8L V6 Camaro.

Wheelspin is not an issue.

Just got a small 16g installed and he no longer passes me in third. We're just about even. Somethings up...
