97-99 Front bumper black strip

I'm swapping out the 96 bumper on my GSX for the 97-99 style .My question is : I'm looking at the stock bumper cover ( I haven't ordered it yet )and the opening for the innercooler seems to have a piece going across the top horizontally that makes the opening smaller . When I look at most cars that piece is not there . Is this piece removable ? I have a large inner cooler and would like as much air as possible . Thanks for the help .Kurt

You have to cut it off.

The piece is removable by cutting it with a dremel along the edge. Not too hard. Oh and it's intercooler.

Yeah real easy to cut off with a dremel, just be careful not to breathe in those fumes when your cutting.

That black piece of plastic is very thin and can also be cut with a utility knife if you don't have access to a dremel. Took me maybe 5 minutes tops to cut mine during my FMIC install.
