i just purchased a 96 tsi that wasn't running. the person before me put a new head gasket, valves, valve springs and timing belt in it and after reassembly couldn't get it to run. i just got it home and started to work on it and i can get it to start if i give it some gas. but it sounds like it it misfireing horrible. i hear no knocks or taps. i check the timing marks on the crank and cams and they seem good. i pulled the spark plugs and they are a little oily but i figure that is due to the misfire. according to the haynes manual the firing order is correct and i did a compression test and got 130-135 on each cyl. if anyone has an idea please let me know. i'm pretty mechanically inclined however i'm trying to figure out someone else's headache. thank you in advance for all your help.
. i gonna check the coolent temp sensor first but i have a feeling i have boost leak. the bov looks brand new on it however i noticed smoke coming up from below the manifold when it was running. any possibility it could be the cam position sensor?
