96 gsx fuel pump wiring hard wired to battery

Hey i was wondering why someone would wire a 12v wire straight off the battery to the fuel pump. I recently bought a modified 96 gsx with a 6 bolt motor. After pulling out the harness for replacement i found two other wire running along the harness through the firewall. One was a electronic boost controller cut right after the firewall and the other was a 4 gauge wire running from the + battery terminal to the fuel pump, with 20a inline fuse.

Sounds like you are describing a standard fuel pump rewire. Very common and is a must with a modified dsm requiring more fuel. The rewire ensures the fuel pump is getting enough Juice/voltage that the stock small gauge wiring doesn't provide.

There should be a relay somewhere close to the fuel pump.

Is the relay youre talking about under the back seats close? Or is it under the hoood

The person who did the rewire would have added the relay if they did it correctly. You should find it if you follow the wire.

Its typically in the back as you use the stock fuel pump wire to trigger it.

I could only find a 20 amp fuse inline about 8 inches from the battery. Ill look more today after work. Thank you for the replys

a lot of people put the relay under the fuel pump access panel. between the fuel tank and floor pan of the car basically. i do not recommend that location but one of the 'how to' documents on line does that and everyone follows it.

Considering I can see the separate ground coming from under the fuel pump access panel, I can almost guarantee the relay is under there as well. As previously said, very common mod, and a must for modified cars.

follow the oem wires and mount it next to the seat belt mount. just pull off the side plastic that you can just barely see in your pic and mount it anywhere in there.
