Hi guys. i posted the same thing a while ago but it wont let me edit it or reply to my own thread. so making a new one. got some pics as well. theres some part missing on the engine underneath the car and i figure it cant be normal. i only got this car 4 days ago and i saw 3 other gst's before i got this and all 3 had the same bit missing... Please help guys. need to identify what this is so that i can go search for it and get it fixed.,

Thanks in advance.

That's a dust cover, and they commonly go missing, especially after a clutch replacement, some people damage them in dropping the trans of damage them in putting them back on. It's made to protect from dust and other trash getting onto the flywheel area. You should be okay without it, but if you really want one. Just search online.

Thanks guys...
will check in the used car parts shops for one.

also, although unrelated to the topic, the car was not pulling off from a stop and would only move when its over 2000 to 3000 rpm. figured it was something wrong with the transmission as it would also jerk really hard when warm and when put into drive from neutral. but today i tried to remove the air sensor, unplugged the cables but could get the thing off the intake so i out it back together. took it out for a drive, it still jerks but pulls like hell now.. any idea as to what may be the reason?

Last thing I would want is road debris or rocks kicked up into the bellhousing, knocking around against my flywheel and pressure plate, or water spraying inside from the driver side tire. Granted, the inspection cover doesn't really guard against lots of water, but it does defend against random spray and such.

Oh for sure, I've just not got terrible roads to worry about, the area I live in has some of the best roads in the Continental US. Debris is a rarity around here.

I forget not everyone has that luxury! I ran a car without one for 3 years and never had a issue, but I have one now, I'm just sayin, if he didn't want to he didn't have to replace, but if he felt the need to, well just do it. I'm agreeing totally with you.

On another note, OP, it's jerking while shifting or while just engaging into D?

It jerks really badly when shifting into D and from D to N. And back. Specially when the engine is hot. Does jerk when changing gears as well, but not as much. I'm not sure if there's something wrong with the tranny or with the mounts for engine and transmission... Or if its something else. This is my first experiance with a DSM and with a used car..

Sounds like you have a torn motor mount. I would check all of them out.

Bryan is right, you most likely have a torn motor mount, there is ways to check for excessive flex in the motor with a friend, or just go thru and inspect them. Though that's what it sounds like to me, because there is no slipping involved right? Just a jerk?

Sorry for sounding so "noobish" but how do I identify if its slipping? Its kinda slow n slugish off the line until 2500 rpm and then the turbo kicks in and it takes off! With a bit of a rattle, but still goes a lot faster than my 2009 2.0 lancer ex.

Well as I said, it kind of doesn't go anywhere until the turbo kicks in. And the the front end lifts off a bit and then its fine. Its a bit better in L or 2.
Thanks for all the advice guys...

you can check your motor mounts by parking the car on a level surface without the ebrake on and the shifter in park. then pop the hood and try moving the car forward and back while watching the motor for movement. more then likely its your front and rear motor mounts. mine did the same and after replacing them with avid mounts to rides and pulls like a completely different car.

@ 007 Jimmy. You were spot on bro. Tried that. Took the hand brake off, put it in park and opened up the hood and moved the car a bit. I can see the engine moving back and forth. So I should get the mounts checked? And changed of course... Thanks to all you guys... Will update when other issues pop up. As I'm sure they will...

@Rajin - will try to make a video of the acceleration issue soon as possible and will post it, thanks bro..

Thats strange for it to have little to no power until boost, it may be a deeper issue. Can you take a video of it (on a closed road or parking lot to be safe) and show us?

i put in some STP injector cleaner while the tank was about half full and the slow acceleration went away (most of it) almost immediately... will it get better if i change the plugs as well? thinking of getting some bosch iridium ones..

also, i am running 98octane fuel. from the day i got the car. on my lancer, its horrible on 98 compared to 95 octane. which one would be better for the gst?
