Is there any difference in modding/stock performance of a 95 vs a 97/98 tsi?

I also keep reading about crankwalk, is it more common in one of these year?

Thanks

crankwalk is sposed to be more common in the 97's. but the 97 and 98 model looks BAD ASS!

only differance i can think of under the hood, is the cam angle sensor location. i know the 95-96 have it in a differant spot than the 97-99. and one has it on the intake cam and one has it on the crank, but i am not sure which is which.

but the 97-98's look so so so cool, i am going to get a conversion someday!

J/K, it is overstated though. The 97-98 looks better than the 95-96, that's reason enough to buy that year:thumb:

word:thumb: only thing is we get the funny banana looking this called a spoiler

I must be the only one that thinks this..but
I actually would like the 95-96 look better if you drop the front bumper for an aftermarket one and have the AWD side-skirts.

i agree with that. 97-98s may look good at first but after a while they just look goofy. 95-96 is nice and clean...

Its ironic that we all own 95/96 models, but I honestly would like a 95-96 more even if I didn't have my talon, the side of the body is more smooth, none of those lines through the side or on the back bumper. The only thing I dislike about 95-96 models is the smiley face front bumper. I don't know if its a 2gb talon thing or not, but I also don't like how they have the handles black on the white vehicles.

I think all of the years look excellent. The only thing I really like better about the 97-98 Talons are the spoilers. Of course, I have no problem with the 95-96 spoiler, but the 97+ is my preference.

My only piece of advice:

Don't pass up a clean, well maintained, well priced 95-96 just because you don't like the front bumper...

95 is still obd1 so thats a big plus! :thumb: less restiriction and easy ass straightpipe fabrication, no ways around the second o2 sensor!!! 95 all the way, you can always get the 97 bumper if u desire it. :talon:

That's just my issue, i guess im going 95/95 tsi instead of the 97/97 esi. Thanks for the opinions, keep 'em comin, it's good to hear different perspectives.

Wrong..All 2g's including 95's are obd2. They also have a 2nd o2 sensor behind the cat.
If you are into performance, the 95's are almost all Eproms. That means if you want Dsmlink or a chip of some sorts you can use your ecu and not have to buy one for 200 dollars:thumb:

Just noticed the Esi part. I would take the 95/96 Tsi over any Esi anyday.

no the performance is the exact same for all years, the only thing thatll affect it would be wear and tear from use and the fact that the later the year the heavier they got. For example a 95 gst/tsiweighs approx 2750 and a 98 gst/tsi weighs about 2980.

actually 95s are obd2 because they have the eec connector or obd port as you non ford guys call it in the cabin area. Mitsu/chrysler made all 2gs obd2 but nowadays obd2 is just as easilly modded the only down side is alot more sensors and things to trip the engine when tuning.

As far as the looks...if I had to buy a 2nd dsm I would buy a 98 talon as they are def the best looking in the bunch. I am getting the front from a 97/98 so I can fit a nice front mount(plus they look so damn good)...but I dont know why you guys dont like the "turbo" wing that goes on the talon...you know the high one, I absolutly love it....if I wasnt going to keep it stock or get a touring wing for autocross I would put it on in a heart beat.

word... you'll wish you had this when you do the 6 bolt swap and the car suddenly starts misfiring like a biatch...

It probably is an Eprom. I said that almost all 95's are eproms. I have yet to see one that is not.

Jason

So are eproms a good thing to have or not? Cuz i'm about to get my first dsm, a 95 tsi in good condition :D :talon: :D

Yes an eprom is a good thing. If you are never going to get dsmlink then sell the eprom ecu for 200-300 dollars and get a 96 ecu for about 75.

Jason

I like 95-96 models better than 97+ atleast with talons i hate the huge indented eagle on the front of 97's and also the spoiler is very weird.
