Are 2Gs (second generation, 1995+ cars) really DSMs?
[Note: this information applies only to the definition of a 'DSM' as used for the purposes of the Talon Digest, and does not reflect the personal opinion of any individual.]

2G cars are considered DSMs because they are direct descendants of the original DSM cars. Although they were technically not built by Diamond Star Motors, their connection to the original line is unmistakable, as they share the name, trim levels and original intention of the 1G cars.

Also, some early 95 cars have DSM labeling on them, leading many to believe that all 2Gs were built by Diamond Star Motors. This is not the case, as Diamond Star Motors officially ceased to exist in mid-1993, when Chrysler sold off all of its Mitsubishi holdings, technically making the 1994 cars the last of the DSMs. This type of hair-splitting is not important for Club purposes, however, and the Club has decided that 2Gers have as much right to be included as earlier owners.

i know this isn't the exact place to post this. but i think its close enough so i don't have to open a new thread.

how does mitsubishi clarify between early 95s and late 95s? do they go by production dates? because my production date is december of 94.

Yes it would go by production date(to a certain extent) - early 95's had vented rears(october 94) there was also different timing belt tensioners(until august 2nd 1994) in early 95's. Could be other small differences but I'm unaware of them.

The dsm labelled(stickers) cars - I don't know when they would have stopped or why they would have used them after the ceased venture between mistu/chrysler, but I believe there where actually a small number of 2g's built in 1993. I own an early 95 I think I do recall seeing some dsm stickers somewhere on it over the years - i'll have to check when I bring it out for the summer.

so if its newer than oct 94 like dec 94 it wont have vented rear rotors correct?

i have dsm stickers on my firewall, hood and a few other places
