Hi, I'm thinking about buying a 95 Talon TSI that this guy near me is selling. The car has 73K original miles on it. And he's only asking $2600 for the car. The car is bone stock, even down to the wheels. Now I've never owned a DSM before, so you could say that I'm relatively new to these cars still, but what are some things that I should look for that might help me decide if this car is worth buying or not? Thank you.

Look for oil leeks see if the turbo has any play test drive it make sure it dose not have any knocking or anything like that.

For that price and milage I would personally just make sure it runs/drives and that the body isn't rusting out. Three problem spots for rust are the shock towers, lower core support, and bottem or the rear quarters.

How do you test for shaft play in the turbo? I've never owned a car with a turbo before.

Pull the intake an feel if the compressor wheel of the turbo moves very little side to side is ok (front/back up/down) But you dont Any In and out play (Drives side to passanger side)

To check for shaft play on a turbo you pop the intake hose off the inlet of the turbo and if it's stock then all you should need is a philips head screw driver and then wiggle it up and down and back and forth. With a t25 there should really be no shaft play at all. If there is then you might be looking at a new turbo or rebuild as the mileage indicates you may need one if he hasn't replaced it yet. Either way, a completely stock, running 95 tsi with 75k on the body is a decent deal for what he's looking for if you ask me.

The car has a few dents in random places, I think the biggest one being about the size of a tennis ball. That dent is in the hatch, and there is another one in the front bumper next to the eagle emblem. No rust from what I saw. I haven't driven the car yet, so fingers crossed it drives okay.

Id ask him if you could perform a compression test and leak down. Some people say no others dont. I ask every time i buy
