About 6 months ago I discovered that the motor in the car is NOT the orignal motor...it looks to me as though it MIGHT be a 7bolt top end with a 6bolt BOTTOM end.

The oil pan is indented, the CAS is located on the left side of the motor (not around the timing belt, like 95s) which leaves 90-94, 96-99 motor possibilities.

My question is the ECU..is it possible to use a 95 ECU and swap out for a 6-bolt and have the ECU still work fine? I ask this because I am considering getting DSM-Link...and the STOCK 95 ECU is programmable.

I have swapped the motor in my car once before, and even though my car is a 93, 7 bolt was in it originally, I put in a 92, 6 bolt engine into it...99% of the parts were taken off the original and put on the new engine and i had no problems with it what so ever (except i had to have an external oil cooler, instead of my bolt on)...as for the ECU, i don't believe that you would have any problems with it, not being with the original 7 bolt bottom end.

I don't want to jack your thread, but I was trying to figure out whether or not my 95 had an engine swap, and when I looked at the oil pan it didn't look like either of the pics on VFAQ. How did you tell for sure about your 95?

I wasn't sure bout my 95 until I had an performance clutch put in and counted the bolts on the flywheel. Now that I am in the middle of a 6 bolt swap I noticed a little plug in my old block. My mechanic told me it was put there for warranty purposes and that my old block was not original that came with my car. Regardless it was still a 7 bolt, but not for long. :)

The easiest way to tell is to look at the oil pan flange. If it is completely flat all the way around then it is a 6 bolt block, if it drops down under the crank sprocket then it is a 7 bolt block.
