Hello, new to the forums but been creepin since I picked up my 95 Talon TSi AWD. Still trying to get all the kinks worked out, and I feel bad that my first post is actually a question but I need to clear up some confusion. I researched this before I decided to post, but couldn't find a clear answer with my situation.

I'm new to the dsm world, but as soon as I picked up the talon I checked the ECU to see if it still had the E-PROM ECU that 95's often come with. It has been swapped out, and I called Mitsubishi the next morning with the serial number to verify it was a turbo model ECU just in case. They stated it was out of an Eclipse GST, but didn't tell me what year. The car isn't running right. I get random CEL's, but not very frequently. I'm running a little rich but I have it as close to stock as I can get right now, so i've figured out it has to be timing. I often sputter and wanna stall when I start from a cold start up. It lacks any kind of power, even when I hit boost I barely start to pull. When I do hit boost, I blow out spark horribly before I even hit 10 psi with a 14b turbo. And just recently I randomly start hunting at idle and I will get stuck at high idles, even up to 2500 RPMs. (unsure if this is cam sensor related though)

So my question is this... If I have a 97+ ECU in the 95 Talon, would the cam sensor not be compatible with it or sending the wrong signals? If so, how would I fix this? (I've found few articles about making different sensors work with different harnesses, but no clear answer on just the ECU swapped)

Any help would be so much appreciated, its getting frustrating. Thank you in advance!

If you post up the part no. on your ECU, we can tell you what year (or at least a year range) it's from.
