My 95 Eagle Summit Wagon has a 2.4 Mitsubishi engine. Lately, it has evidenced repeated stalling when idling cold. It hasn't stalled warm or rolling down the road. I put it in a heated garage for a couple of days and it quit stalling for a couple of weeks. Now, it is again stalling repeatedly when idling cold. I have a shop manual and it lists 10 reasons for cold stalling, virtually all have check engine light/codes associated with them. But, I get no light/codes; I'm able to check codes by grounding #1 OBD pin to ground and thereby causing the check engine light to blink out the code(s). Furthermore, I get the "normal" code. Can I rely on the absence of codes? Can anyone give me any advice about what it might be?

I agree, the idle air control gizmo could be the trouble but wouldn't it generate a code if it were malfunctioning? Actually, it is more than just a valve; it is a whole apparatus mounted on the bottom of the throttle body according to the shop manual and it costs $100-200.

No, it hits right away and evidences no reluctance or hesitancy to start cold.

I'm starting to wonder if snow/moisture gets in somewhere and causes the trouble, such as frost on a transistor or something. Now that it is getting warmer out it has been not stalling, lately. There was one day some 2 weeks after I put it in a heated garage that it did its stalling and now it hasn't done it for over a week. Also, at the time of the stalling, there occurred some odd behavior with the electric door locks, meaning I'd unlock and when I put the key back to removal position the locks would lock again. Now this has stopped, too.
