ok so im doing a motor swap from a 95 eagle talon 420a m/t to a 98 eclipse 420a a/t iam kinda new to this so if there is any thing i need to know please tell me i will accept any advice giving thanks........ damien

Thanks bro i got another question would it be easier to pull the motors from the top or drop motor and tranny together?...

I did my motor not to long ago and pulling it with the tranny from the top by far the best way to go. I did a motor on an avenger (420a) and tried dropping out the bottom way more work unless you have a lift.

since im just swappin motors could i just pull the motor from the top would that be the easyest way?

Yes that would be the easiest way. Just take the accessories and harmonic balancer off the passenger side of the motor.

Also, I would do a timing belt/water pump job on the motor you are about to swap in while it's out and maybe also a head gasket if you don't know when the last that stuff has been changed.

okay i did the swap changed all the censors that need be and she wont start i know the motor runs i started it before i did the swap im getting gas and the timing is correct but no spark at all i know the coil pack is good because it was working now i dont have any spark at all i cant seem to find a solution any ideas??? anyone....

Did you change any connectors? If so, were they wired correctly?

yea i just screwd them in the same spots and changed the cas.
all my wires are plugged up correctly exept the ac i didnt put the ac
pump on on this motor so im stuck

could i use the conecters off the talon and just wire them
onto the harness where the old connecter goes

Did you swap the m/t into the 98'?

Is your starter relay/switch good?

What about the electrical ground? Did you disconnect it before ?
Just some ideas. Alternator, starter, battery, ground and ECU. I always check those. Get a voltage meter and start checking voltage.

no i didnt put the m/t in i just changed motors the the starter works it turns over fine, and how would i check the electrical groung?or any other grounds that i might need to check ..im really dont know alot about it so i appreciate any advice

yes because i was gonna try and fix the old motor and spark is one thing i made sure it had and it did... do you think it could be a ground if so where at?

ok it runs now had a conector that wasnt plugged up all the way now i got another problem its idleing at 3300 -3500 rpm and when i crack down on it the rpms decline then pick right back up a 330-3500 what now ??

when i crack it the rpm goes up then decline down to about 2500 then shoot back up to 3300-3500 rpm and idle right there

If the EGR valve isnt properly bolted on it will surge on idle like you describe. Its one option anyways.
If the EGR is stuck open or closed "I cant remember" it will idle high

thanks guys i got her running right it was a vacuum line it was cracked..... so all in all the swap was a sucess i want to thank everyone who posted with some advice....if your going to the shootout you might see me...
