93 tranny in a 91

I just blew my tranny apart last night, fortunately I have an extra tranny in the backyard. My car is a 91 but the tranny is out of a 93, can someone confirm for me that this will be a direct swap.

Yes all 91-94 trannies are interchangeable, assuming they are both awd trans. Only exception is the 90 trans, these are not a "true" bolt on.

My friend did this swap only vice versa. He put a 91 AWD tranny into a 93 AWD. Direct bolt on. ONLY... he had to change the shift linkage along with it.

what about a 93, 1.8 fwd tranny onto a 2.0 fwd?

So if I wanted to swap my 90 awd tranny with a 91-94 tranny what would be required to do so? Also, what would be required to swap a 2g awd tranny into a 1990?

The 2g's and 1g's aren't interchangeable. Well unless you made your own tranny mounts and so forth, but then your driveshaft would probably need shortened or lengthened. The difference between the 90 and 91, I believe are the output shafts on the transmissions have a different amount of splines, so you would need the transfer case from a 91 tranny too. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I'm aware of, you need the 90 trans, the 91-94 shift linkage and brackets. I'm currently having trouble with mine but I am also running 90 brackets so I'm sure that's my problem.

It has been done before but for the amount of work involved in it, your better off putting in a 1g trans. There would be little to no gain for it. Any reason for doing this?

I've always thought to myself, on anything that involves fabrication, if you have to ask about it, you can't/shouldn't do it.

Well the only reason I thought of doing it is that the 2g trannys shift smoother unlike the dogbox 1g's. My tranny is on its way out anyways, so I thought I might as well put a 2g in its place. However, I didn't know how much work was required, the shop guy just said he could do it. He conveniently didn't tell me how much it would cost or how hard it would be. So now that I know it's not worth It I'll be just satisfied with a 91-94 tranny and some synchromesh.
