im thinking about buying a 92 laser awd and first off the car has a rebuilt 6 bolt motor, and it has 15,000 miles on it with 2g pistins, 2g head, balancers removed an stock rebuilt turbo. When i was driving it i noticed it was running rich i believe becuase it was some what backfiring, then its also got a new exhuast system ,2days old, and at the tip of the cat-back its got black coating of carbon i beleive, but its just black crap that when u rub ## finger across it goes on to ## finger. So i was wondering whats up with that.
And also the oil pan is leaking, so i was going to take it off and use rtv on it, but i was wondering if u have to remove the transfor case to take it off?
All the help is great fully appricated
Thanks

I would ask the guy who is selling more questions about the engine because I dont believe anyone would intentionally put a 2g head in a 1g car.

Ask the guy if he has done anything with the fuel system. If he has upgraded the injectors or the pump, and has nothing to tune with, the car could possibly be running rich and that could cause small missfires and the build up on the exhaust tip.

What about them?

Most are black.

They sit under the engine.

You deffinitley don't want one with a crack.

Figure those specifics about the 2g head and what not. Find out if he has upgraded any fuel components and weather or not he has a way to tune it. If theres no way to tune it I would walk away. There is no way of telling how bad an untuned engine is thats been driven for 15k miles.

okay but the engine shouldnt be bad without a tune becasue he basically did a stock rebuild, and hes running the stock turbo and boost. but what do i know im just a damn noob, so please correct me if im wrong. and what should i use for tuning on this car.

If it was a total stock rebuild done right it shouldn't be running rich. thats why these guys are asking about the fuel system. if the guy put bigger injectors and/or pump with no way to tune then the car will run rich. which is no good for anybody.

if this car is going to be with you for a long time then you should spend the money and do it right with a standalone. if you cant afford that then i know a lot of guys run the greddy e-manage piggyback systems.

oh yeah, and why on earth would anyone use a 2g head on a 1g? thats just downright silly.
