I am very new to the DSM world but i have a 92 eagle talon that i just bought and at first everything seemed fine. It would grind going into 1st every now and then and it didnt like to go in reversed but you could make it with a little patince. but when i went out to my car the other day it felt as though it was being held back. its not the moter ive already looked at that. I have also replaced the transmition fluid and it was black when i took it out. I dont know what this could be and any help would be greatly apprishiated.

Well my first question will be : How did you determine the engine is fine?

Second is : What fluid did you use for the trans?

When it comes to a Turbo-charged vehicle you have to keep in mind that there are several things which factor into how the vehicle performs. You need to firstly perform a full tune-up. This includes fluids, gaskets which show wear, tend to leaks, inspect and change the timing components if they look worn or if you don't know when the last time it was updated was. Once this is done you should perform a Compression, Leakdown, and a boost leak test.

All of this factors in, especially with boost leaks. Ignition timing is also a major thing to watch out for and ensuring that it is correct. If it is off you will experience a loss of power as well as rich/lean condition. A boost leak, however, is your most common issue.

I didnt test the engine but it reponse well when not in gear and i used 85w90 in the trans.

Responding well in neutral by Revving the engine tells you absolutely nothing about the engine. It doesn't share compression with you, the condition of the valves, the timing, nothing. You need to physically do the things suggested in the 2nd post before you do anything else.

What brand gear oil did you use?

pardon my ignorince like i said i was new LOL I will do those tests and get back to you. Thank you for your help.

It's not a problem. :) Just get out there and run those tests and let us know the results!

i just looked at the trans fluid bottle and relized it was 80w90 valvoline durablend. i dont know if that makes any difference also when i changed the fluid it helped. It didnt make it compleatly better but a little better then it was.

Should try out Sychromesh next time you do a change. A lot of people have great results from it. I know I personally went from a notchy, grind happy shift to a smooth as butter shift when I changed over years ago.

So i just did the Compression test and the results are as followed (1) dry = 120 wet = 140 (2) dry = 120 wet = 140 (3) dry = 120 wet = 145 (4) dry = 120 wet = 143. It looks to be pretty even accross the board so i dont know if thats a good thing or not. I do however think that 120 is a little low from everything that I have been reading. I had to order a leak down tester because no body around here had one in stock. also I have seen a couple off DIY boost leak testers but i was woundering if you guys had any recommendations on that.

The next time i have to change it I will. But in better news I believe i found what was wrong with my car. after doing the compression test i found that my (4) spark plug wire had been almost all the way melted. so much so that you could see the wire in the center was in half so i taped it up real well and on my way to go get new wires something amazing happend. My car was back to normal. So what I think the issue was, the spark plug was just sparking enough to keep the car alive but not much more and when i fixed the wire it got all the spark back. I dont know if this is actually what happend but your feed back would be apprisheated.

Good to hear! However those numbers are quite low. Consider a rebuild sometime in the future!

other then a complete rebuild what are some other things that i can do to pick up my compression?
