Ok, I am looking to buy an already built 90 transmission from a guy for a good price, my 92 transmission is ok, and i would get this one rebuilt but a friend needs a transmission, so buying the already built one would work out for the both of us. The 90 comes with the transfer case also. So heres my question...

I called a very very reputable transmission shop and he said that the difference even with having the transfer case will be the input shaft. The shop said it will be about 300 dollars to make the 90 work. What im wondering is first.....is the input shaft the only difference. and 2...could i just take the 92 input shaft out of my current transmission and put it in the 90? Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not 100% sure on this but the imput shaft should be the same. If not you wouldnt have to change it, just buy a clutch for a 90 instead of a 92, but all the 1G clutches are the same, so I think it is BS. HE may also be confused with the T case shaft and the imput shaft. Again, I am just deducing this from parts and part numbers available.

well everyone i talked to said that internally it should be ok, but i will need the 90 shift linkage and the 90 shifter assembly...so instead of going that route, i will just swap transmissons with my friend who has a 91 transmission that just needs new sycros and take it to shep this weekend and let him play with it. :thumb: thanks for your help

That is what I thought. Yes, the shifter itself and cables would need to be swapped, but getting a rebuild from Shep will be the best route. I have driven a few DSM that shift nice, but none shift as well as those with the touch of Shep. I love mine and would never go anywere else.
