So this week I went to get emissions to register my 91 talon TSI. But when I was watching the screen there that tells your RPMs. They were bouncing from 550 - 1500 and it seems to be like this when im at stoplights as well

Any suggestions? Thanks

Yep, could be the IAC. Check for boost leaks, possibly your base timing isn't set.

It could be your fuel filter, a vacuum leak, or build in the manifold. Have you tried testing the Manifold Air Pressure sensor, may be bad?

how exactly do you test the map? Because i have a 91 tsi and im having the same issues

1g dsms dont have map unless you put it in with all the right tuning software, they have mas, mass airflow sensor, the aic is probably whats wrong, my 91 did the same thing, if you look on top of the tb, close to the vacum lines, there should be a black ruber cap, may not be tho, take it off and about half inch theres a filups head screw, try screwing it in and out little by little with the car at idle, fixed my problem, also check the throtle cable, make sure its adjusted right, its only two small bolts on the back of the manifold, 10 mm

hope this helps and good luck

This is one of three idle-related threads created in two days. We need to keep this under control, guys- one more and I'm merging everything.

Here's what to do- go to the "search" bar in the header above. Choose "search forums". When the page loads, type "idle" in the search bar, and be sure to change the bar beneath to "search titles only". The search will reveal about 500 threads (no shit) with "idle" in the title. Search for one that fits the description of your issue, and see what the poster did to address the issue.

This site is coming up on 10 years old....all of the information has remained searchable- none of it is archived. If you think that no one else has suffered the same idle issue as you in the past ten years, I'm sure you're mistaken.
