91 tranny in a 90 car...what parts are needed?

I have a 91 tranny that i picked up that i plan on putting in my 90. Its an awd 5 spd. I'm wondering what parts specifially do i need to make it work? thanks

It'll fit. You don't need any special parts.

You need a 91-94 transfer case, shifter cables, and shifter plate.

Incorrect.

I have swapped a 90 tranny for a 91 in my 90 talon awd.

after the tranny was installed I found that I had no 5th and 1st or 2nd and r. or something like that. reason being, the shift linkage arms off the tranny/bell housing are sized differently from tranny to tranny.

to fix this you will need to swap shifter cables and the actual shifter assembly in the car.

oh and you will need the correct t-case too.

a 90 t-case will not swap to a 91 tranny, at least mine did not want to swap, the splines are a different number. so you will need 90 t-case to 90 tranny and 91 t-case to 91 tranny plus matchign shifter assemblies.

basically you are just switching all components of the tranny from one car to the other.

after you have the tranny out, remove the shifter assembly from each car and swap those

then swap the cables, slide them through the hole in the fire wall under the dash past the ecu up into the center cockpit shifter area and bolt them to the matching shifter assembly

don't forget to bolt the cables to the shifter linkage and add fluid
