Hey everyone, it's my first time posting here, just looking for a little assistance. I just bought a 5-speed 91 Laser Rs The 2.0 135 HP 16 Valve DOHC. Was running great for a week or two but i'm allready running into tranny problems. If anyone knows of any common problems, or where I can get a cheap replacement transmission or a performance tranny, please let me know. Thanx so much all really appreciate it. Hope to hear back soon.

My buddy has one for sale for $150 w/ only 70K miles. PM me.

Without more info its hard to tell you what it might be. Common problems are syncros wearing out. But there are other things that might not be the tranny causing the problem. For example the clutch, slave cylinder, TO bearing, etc.

If you are wanting help in diagnosing the problem, give us a little more details.

Thanks, Joe

My DSM guy told me that my third and fourth shift forks have broken off. Any idea?

You can probably locate another tranny on DSMTrader or here...just check out the classifieds and make sure you get a NON-TURBO tranny. The turbo models use a slightly larger flywheel so you will have problems but it will hook up (don't ask me how I know :sigh: ).

I dont think rebuilding is very cost effective, since used trannys dont cost much. You might be able to get the shift forks replaced, but I wouldnt spend the money personally. You can even save money doing the swap yourself. If you dont know how, go to www.vfaq.com and look up the instructions for a clutch swap. It will tell you bolt by bolt what to do. Thats how I did mine.

As far as a performance tranny, Shep Racing makes the best in my opinion, but for a non turbo, I dont think you need that much. Personally, I'd go with a used tranny, new clutch, and fill the tranny with syncromesh or redline, and drive.

Good Luck....Joe
