Ok So i saved a 91 tsi from the crusher and have been putting it together for a little while. Recently it got its frame pulled and a new sub frame, well my new frame came off a 92 tsi with it i got every thing off the 92 including its brakes well, i noticed one of my calipers was striped so i was gona just swapp the 92 ones over but noticed there completely different. So i was wondering if any one could tell me do 91 tsi's and 92's have the same brakes or do i have some after market calipers on my hands. the 91s are single pistons the 92s are dual pistons. can i use these on my 91?

they are stock mitsi equipment

2gs came with them my guess is someone did the upgrade before you recieved that from the yard . But seriously there are a ton of write ups

Looks like 3000gt SL brakes. They will bolt right up. Also fit a 16" rim if thats what you have. Only difference in 2g and 3000 brakes are the brake line hookups themselves. Both types can be used without and other mod besides rotor.

but are they stock or aftermarket ?

Stock Mitsubishi parts but not what comes on a 92. Hard to say from the picture exactly which car was the donor for the dual piston calipers and as pauleyman points out there is a minor difference (1/16") in the piston diameter between the M-R56W (41.3mmx2) calipers used on the 93 and 94 AWD's and the M-R57W (42.8mmx2) calipers used on the FWD 3000GT and Stealth. Either way you want to use the dual piston calipers, rotors, and pads. You don't want the original single piston calipers unless you like brake fade and replacing warped rotors regularly.

Sweet ! the dual piston ones came off a 92 tsi (suposidly never know with craigslist). ima throw them on today if i can find a piston kit and a place to get some decent sloted rotors for them (any input on a good source?) thanks for the help guys

I would just get some good wagner rotors from rockauto.com. The slotted rotors can't be resurfaced by most places so once your pads eat into them they will be trash.

They probably came from a '93 car, which was manufactured in late '92. That is a common mistake.

Not all 92's did. The early 92's (6-bolts) didn't get The big brakes. I have had a few that were all factory, No big brakes.

As for slotted rotors, just get some for the 2g or 3000gt's

This is one of my pet peeves...

NONE of the 92's came with big brakes. The switch to big brakes happened in the '93
ALL 92's came with 4 bolt rear ends (yes, some people still insists on stating that they have a 4 bolt rear in their 92 car)

98% of 92's came with 6 bolt motors. (7 bolt engines was the only oddball thing to happen to 92's, but it affected only handful of cars built in June of '92, at the very end of production, when they ran out of 6 bolt motors, it is almost not even worth mentioning).

What complicates things is the fact that over the years, people mixed and matched parts. The worst scam was swapping rear ends on people. In the mids 90's 4 bolt rear ends were selling for $600-$800, so stories of "test drive swaps" were circulating around (test drive the car to your garage and swap 4 bolt rear end in favor of 3 bolt). "Normal people" would never know the difference... But when a DSMer would stumble to something like that he would claim to have a 3 bolt rear end 92 on his hands...

I wouldn't! Those front "ABS sensor drums" make it very difficult to replace wheel studs! It goes from a 5 min job, to a 2-3 hour job! Because you now have to remove the hub to get to the stud.

You can say that studs rarely need to be replaced, and that is true, but if you ever have to do it, you will kick yourself ;)
