I swapped a 90+ 6 bolt motor into my talon and the rpm gauge is not working
i dont know why it is not working can anyone give me any advice?

is it hooked up? your being very very vague here. It would be like me saying I installed a new battery into my car and it won't start (when it has a blown motor).....

Sorry man
im using a 90+ ecu for the car and the car is a 90 and the motor is a 90+ ecu
sorry i just really want to get this figured out what else would u like to know?

Can anyone please tell me what to do i gave as much information as i know.
I would really like to get my rpm gauge working tommorow
Please

im thinking i have the 90 cas i didnt take anything out of the car when swapping the motor
just put a 92 motor into my 90 car

the 90 cas has wires leading from the sensor, and runs about a foot in length from the sensor and has a square, box looking, end plug. the 91-94 cas has its connector on the sensor with no wires leading from it. so to get the tach to work, you would probably need a 90 computer.

i say just hardwire the tach in

or swap out pins 6 and 14 in the ecu im not sure if that is what the problem is or not but i am pretty sure what year is the ecu out of

i need exact years on all of it

We need to know the EXACT years of the following parts:

Gauge Cluster Assembly
Coil Pack / Ignitor / Noise Filter
ECU
CAS
Wiring Harness (the one that's in your car)

to get this to work, you have to have the corresponding cas->harness->gauge cluster. You could hard wire in the cas, but you may still have to swap out either the entire gauge cluster, or at least the tach from a 1gb('91-94)

When you swapped in the later 6 bolt, did it come with a different wiring harness? or did you use the one you had in the car?

gauge cluster-90
coil pack and stuff-90
ecu is not a 90 i forgot what exact year it is
cas-90
wiring harness-90

Ok here is your problem.. The ECU is a 92 in a 90 car correct? You need to swap pins 6 and 14.. On top of that you also need to goto DSMchips.com and order the external tach adapter from Jeff and wire it in.. It comes with instructions and is a breeze to install. Next time give more info. The 91 motor is the same as the 90 and 92 motors. 90's have different coil packs and assembly, throttle body, CAS, and the ECU is year specific.

i remember when I put a 91 ecu into my friends 1990, the car ran like shit/ the tach didnt work.

if you find a 1990 ecu, make sure you have a noise filter, i had that problem before :(

It is real simple you have to use a 90 tach/gague cluster with the 90 Power transistor and coil pack setup. You also have to use a 90 ECU or you can just switch the two wires on a 91+ EU if you don't have one laying around, but that doesn't have anything to do with the tach that will insure the car works.

It is much easier to swap parts than rewire it.

k everyone is saying different things
here is how the car is set up
1990 tsi car
1990 cas
1990 gauge cluster
1990 coil pack and transistor
1992 engine
1992 ecu
just so everyone is clear on everything
now who is 100% sure on what to do
