90 Laser Transmission Help!

Okay guys heres the deal. i Bought a 1990 Laser RS FWD i put a trans in it out of a 91 Talon FWD and it was having a coffe grinder sound like a bad throw out when i take my foot off the clutch but as soon as i press it in it goes away!. But just for safety measure i tore it apart to find the 3rd and 4th gear slider was broke. so i swapped all the internals out of another 90 trans i had that i know was good and i put it back in and now its doing it again.. any input would help guys!

Did you take the clutch out as well? Maybe a spring popped out? Happened to me on my F-body sounded like grinding with the clutch pedal disengaged (even in neutral).

I know the 90 transmissions have a different shifter bracket on AWD's.

So you need the 90 bracket put onto the 90 transmission for it to work right.

I had a same problem and it turned out to be the throw out bearing

well guys i have a slight update because today i started it up to move it and at first i could get into gear but it would like bog down terrible and then i shut it off and tried it again and well it grinds going into every gear so bad that i couldnt get into a gear at all so im thinking the trans is shot... any other guesses..im gonna end up pulling the trans again i guess and ill have to check the disc like Lasershark said

you know for sure the clutch slave is bled all the way and the fork is operating.
cause my 1g would grind gears when shifting cause of a faulty rebuilt after-market slave cylinder it had the shorter spring in it [live and learn] so it would not fully engage the the clutch. did you check for metal particles, or flakes in the trans fluid?

another thing to keep in mind, for when you redo it all, the throw out bearing has to have the oem plastic like inner wear surface ring, I had issues running the inner metal after-market ones, they create more noise then the oem ones.

you can order the right throw out bearing from carquest for like around 25 bucks it should be made by nachi.
mitsubishi part number md722744 or rb-0402, or nachi part number 48SCRN32K

also I recommend you run the good redline mt90 oil in it after you fix it all 2 quarts should be enough to do the job.

by the way is this a turbo fwd model?

If you would prefer a 90 trans I have one I would trade with you. Might solve the not going into gear problem because the shifter arms are different

That is exactly what I was saying. Could be this problem.
