I am curious to see if anyone has mounted 8" subs where the rear speakers are mounted. And if so how did it turn out. I know your would obviously have to make some kind of enclosure to hold the subs.... no stupid open air subs. It has been awhile since I have had my rear panels out and I'm not sure how much room is there to mount up a sub enclosure.

I have made many custom enclsures and am aware of what it takes to make subs sound good so please no smart a$$ remarks.WTF

It would be easier to put 8" subs inside the door panels. Especialy since the bracket the door speakers mount to would hold a 8" perfect... Magnet wouldn't allow windows to roll down tho LOL...

You'd have to do alot of mods for puting the subs in the rear speaker panels.

Seems like a lot of trouble to go through for some 8" subs. If space is an issue I'd recommend a bass tube. I know sometimes it's not about the work though and it's just fun to see if you can do something. GL with that and post when you're done.

There is something you could use with minor work, Its a 6" sub created by Elemental Designs, very powerful and compact. Do a search on YouTube for Scion Subwoofer, there's a TC with like 30 of them in this trunk.

8" in my opinion would be hard to stuff in the rears. However a good alternative would be the Tang Band 6 1/2" subs.

Found here at PartsExpress.com, these little speakers are something else. I've tried them as midbass and as subs in two different cars and man, I love them. Easily outplays 8" subs and not to shaby compared to 10" subs either. They would be very easy to put in an enclosure in this space.

Goodluck and I'd love to see build pictures and such.

Well I will have to pull the panels and take some measurements. I know the sound of 8's arnt the best but I would like to keep everything clean looking. Thats why I really dont want to put anything in the trunk. I have never heard how the 6" subs/speakers sound but im sure there not to bad. If you think about the BOSE enclusures that are put in escalades and other chevy vehicles I think they are 6" and they dont sound too bad. Obviously I dont expect huge sound from 8's so the 6" may not sound too bad. I will post pics if I go for it:thumb:

Dude, seriously look into some 6" Elemental Designs subs... They are competition subs. There is a scion tc on YouTube that has 32 of them in his trunk. each one only taking in about 12wrms of power and yet about to blow the windows out of the car.

You could bolt them right into the stock housing almost... All you'd have to do is fiberglass the rear portion giving them a sealed enclosure... Which they don't require alot of sealed space to bump...

***Edit***, I got HD 7.1 DTS Audio on my PC with a cheapo suround sound system and a 4" Sub, and that video is bumping soo hard ... it sounds good.. you gotta have a sub to watch that video!

I put 8" Sony tri-axial round speakers in the rear quarter panels of my 91 Talon some years ago. It was a lot of work and didn't turn out well.

I removed the stock speaker brackets and cut the panels to fit the new speakers. The panels were reinforced with oak and fiberglass but were still not strong enough to handle the power from the 100 watt amp. A single Pink Floyd song would pop both rear quarter panels loose.

... Not unless you went with some Kicker SSMB8's... These midbass drivers have a 2 1/8" mounting depth!! -I put them in my 1g Talon... made a 1/4" spacer out of MDF to forward space the mids and they clear the window with no problems.... True: an enclosed sub and/or midbass driver will sound better. These SSMB8's did help bridge the frequency response gap from the 10" subs and my existing 6" MB Quart components nicely.

Yeah, Rockford, Alpine and pretty much every other company has nice subs made for shallow mounting depth.

But ehh... The only reason I would install subs inside my doors or rear panels, is if I'm going to install one hell of an audio system... and if I was doing that, I wouldn't worry about hiding them.

Im just extremely anal about how things look. I have taken my time on every part i've installed and would like it to look clean and still have a little bass. I would agree with the great sound and shallow mounting depths on the Alpine subs. They are extremely clean sounding (type R) especially for people who install them in hatchback cars.

Im sure the enclosure would have to be fiberglass which is no problem but I would worry about the vibration in the metal panels....... When I first bought my car I worked as an installer at circuit city so I dynomated and used expandable foam on the whole car but I'm thinking you would have to brace the rear panels to eliminate the vibration. BTW the whole license plate trunk rattle has to be my biggest pet peve ever!!! Spend some money and dyno mat your cars!!!!!!!!!:thumb:

I thought there was a company that made fiberglass rear speaker panels for an eclipse that held 8" subs?
