1G 6bolt crankwalk?

I bought a 6bolt and couple of weeks ago for 400, took it all apart, stock bore & walls are good.
I noticed I can move the crank left to right slightly when I push on it. It makes a noise, this is bad isn't it? How would this be fixable? This is my first engine rebuild.

Yes a crank can walk in any motor , I walked my 6 bolt a year ago. Your going to have to take the block and crank in to a machine shop to know the full damage if any. It happens

there'll be play but not enough to be noticed. when one walks the block and crank have to be checked. most the time the crank is done after that. if its not bad enough it can be saved. don't have the crank cut. only polished. cutting the crank only removes the nitride hardened surface and makes it weaker. as stated above, any engine can walk.

There needs to be some play in the crankshaft, check the service specs and measure yours accordingly and compare to actually know, otherwise its all just crying wolf.

Crankwalk is a silly term. All motors have some measure of end play in the crank thrust bearing. Thrust bearing wear can occur in any car. If any motor, including 4g63 6 bolt, is outside the thrust bearing end play specs I would say a teardown and inspection is necessary and subsequent repair. If the cause isn't found and repaired it will repeat itself.

As been said already yes they can.. In fact, the only actual engine I've seen "walk" has been a 6 bolt.. I was working on a buddies car after he acquired a built 6 bolt for his spyder. Upon putting on the timing belt I noticed this...
