hello, i recently built a 6 bolt and put it in my 95 GST. i got rid of all the oil leaks and water leaks and other small problems that you have with swapping motors. i am onto something i can not seem to figure out though. i have a wicked misfire under light acceleration. i rewired the injectors for the swap and obviously changed the firing order. it ran fine at first, no misfire. i have new spark plug wires and new NGK plugs gapped to .030. what else would cause something like this? im lost. anyone else do a 6 bolt swap and have a misfire problem while cruising?

thanks,

eric

come on guys no one has done a 6 bolt swap and had any problems with misfires? i havent been driving it and it would sure be nice to ride in it a little before winter.

check your coils. they are probobly breaking down. get someone in the car loading it up against a wheel stop or whatever and see if you can short out the cylinders and see which one is missing. if cylinders 1 and 4 are missing but 2 and 3 are ok then its a coil and this 2 and 3 are missing and 1 and 4 are ok blah blah blah. coil.

so your not thinking its a problem with the 6 bolt swap or anything like that? could it be a tps as well?

Have you tested resistance on your TPS? You could also verify its status with a datalogger. Misfire under light/moderate throttle is common with the 6-bolt swap. Upgrading to DSMLink would fix this, but the cheap alternative is to do the baro wire mod.

what is the baro wire mod? i found adsmlink on the trader, and a pocketlogger on the trader for 75 bucks, perhaps its a good idea to pick that up. i havent checked anything on the tps, i have a cheap work shop manual that really gives no description on how to test the bugger out

The pocketlogger is nice to get if you don't have the funds to get the dsmlink because you can clear the misfire code and not have your engine retard the timing. The barometric wire mod is when you take a 10k variable resister and wire it in series to pin 85 on your ECU. It's supposed to help but mine didn't help much. Just made me run leaner. I've noticed that it happens less now that I've driven it around for a few months.

alright, well it looks like i will have to get a pocket logger of some sort, i did a search and found a whole lot of goods and bads about a lot of them. seems teh most common is the palm pilot and people seemed to have a good overall view of that. is a pocket logger kind of like a scanner that you can monitor things, retrieve codes and pull codes? what is the major difference between dsm link and a logger? how much is dsm link, i couldnt find it on vendor sites here off the forum and i couldnt find any with in the first 10 pages on the trader. thanks for the help. i appreciate it

Yes, pocketlogger is like a scanner. It will pull codes using your OBD-II plug and it'll let you clear them as well. If you have the money for it, I would recommend DSMlink. There's so many more features as well as being able to do everything that the pocketlogger can do. Also, it has a feature where you can tell the ecu not to throw the misfire code at all whereas with a pocketlogger you have to clear it everytime it comes in. Visit www.dsmlink.com for prices and what it can do. The only downside in my opinion is that you have to send in your ECU for a few days while they socket it.

alright thanks a lot, i just checked out the website and glanced it over. i saw the price. that is crazy expensive, although im sure its worth it. ill have to go with a pocketlogger for now i guess. would disconnecting my battery work every night

Yeah, technically it would but everytime you do that, your ECU will have to relearn fuel curves and your car will idle like poo. Just get the pocketlogger for now and save up for dsmlink like I'm doing.

haha i was being sarcastic but i will be saving to. hopefully one will appear on the trader for under 100 bucks and i can snag that up. one other question while i have your guru's, any idea why my car idles at 2K at start up for a few mins? this happened only after the motor swap. after a few mins it drops down to 1K and holds steady

I dunno man. I blame it on the colder weather. I wouldn't necessarily say it's bad tho because I'm sure the higher rpms makes the engine and oil warm up faster. Atleast in my opinion. When you find out, let me know.
