I could not find the proper forum to place this question in so i put it here for now.

My question is. Is the 6 bolt 1g turbo starter different from a 1g 7 bolt starter? This gets really confusing because they put 6 bolt motors in early 1992 then mid year switched to seven bolt cranks? I need a starter i have a 6bolt 1992 and heck i can not for the life of me get the correct one? If you know the answer too this question please help if not don't reply. I just want knowledge . The part number is 1991 are all the same for manuals and automatics! But in 1992 they give you a option manual or automatic. Then they have a different part number? So there must be some type of difference? I'm thinking its the 6bolt to seven bolt crank swap?

i think they are the same but im not 100% sure, i know the plate between the trans and block are different

Here's what i have found the 6 bolt starter or manual and automatic pre 1992 back has a longer snout it goes deeper into the transmission. The 7 bolt seem to have a short snout when it comes to a automatic . When they switched the cranks in mid year to 7 bolts the manual kept the same length snouts but the automatics became shorter snouted.

Okay heres a picture i took. On the left is a 1991 awd starter manual or automatic same part number in this year 16939. On the right is a 1992 awd automatic starter you are given a automatic option in this year part number is 17217. However this starter would not even touch the flywheel on my 1992 awd why not? Because it is a 6 bolt crank. So i need a photo of a 1993 manual and auto starter. Or there part numbers.
