Tecumseh,
I know this is a bad question but I had a bit of confusion today. I have 92 tsi awd its build date is may 1992. The oil pan bumps out indictating 6 bolt, there is a orange warning sticker in my drivers door jam telling me that the car is equipped with a viscous coupling limited slip diff. So i know its a 6 bolt, but today i found out that my oil cooler must be wrecked because the oil filter keeps coming loose and I blew out all the oil in the motor twice today but I went to canadian tire to get a filter and their reference guide says thats anything after april 92 is the 7 bolt filter (motomaster 1747-0 or fram 7317)? So does that mean their book is wrong or am I wrong about having a 6 bolt? I just want to make sure before I order a new oil cooler? Thanks in advance.

6-bolts where only made until 4/92. That is where the cutoff is for the different oil filters at work anyways. You most likely have a 7-bolt. However the oil filter unscrewing itself has nothing to do with that. You can use a 6 or 7 bolt oil filter. What you need to do it take off your oil filter, unscrew the stud that it threads onto and inspect it for messed up threads or anything abnormal. Also take off your oil filter housing and inspect the little orange seal behind it. Don't unbolt it from the block just take the round part off when you take the stud out. Check and see if your housing is bent. That is a common problem that can happen very simply by over tightening the filter. Make sure when you change your oil that you just put the filter on handtight plus maybe 1/8 of a turn.

I thought 7 bolts didn't have the LSD? and my oil pan bumps out like a 6 bolt also? Not sure but I wanna make sure Thanks

6 bolts were still in 92's until may. I've got one with a May '92 build date as well, and I've got the 6 bolt motor w/limited slip. Anyone who tells you that 6 bolts were not put into May '92 talons is just simply incorrect. :talon:

The orange sticker indicating that the vehicle is LSD equipped only means that it has all wheel drive. It has nothing to do with determining if the vehicle has a six or seven bolt motor.

Check the seal behind the oil filter housing as previously stated, and let us know if that was the problem.

both oil filters will fit 1G and 2G

I have a 1G filter on my 2G to make room for custom piping because its shorter and I've never had a problem with any leaks
