I recently used some of lucas new oil they have, 10w 30 less than 100 miles later i noticed my head making some noise, clattering.
Instantly with this oil i no longer ran a constant 40-50 psi, it dropped to 25-30 psi.

I drained the oil thinking it was washing out my lifters, the crap was thinner than water, I'm not impresed.

went back with my normal oil and lucas stabalizer additive. the oil is now the right color, and viscosity, after my car warms to operating temprature, i continue to hear some clacking noises in the head, it sounds like it could be the lifters to me, but it's now to the point of throwing a cel light for detonation because it clatters so loud going down the road. At certain rpm's it makes no noise but around a steady 2500 rpm's it goes nuts.
I'm worried.

what is this most likely going to be?

if there was a stop leak/smoke stop additive in the lucas oil, it may have swollen or split the seal in the HLAs causing them not to hold pressure properly.

HLA= Hydrolic Lash Adjuster or as some call it here. a lifter

check the VFAQ for "how to set your time belt" that will solve that queston for you

bet the alum divits for the baffle on the inside of the VC ave worked loose, a drift and hammer should reset them.

gona drop a MHI cover on and see what happens.

I went off the Vfaq and set my cams right and the little dots pointing up etc... it just seemed strange to me that the cam lobes are slightly off.

Remember that cams turn half crank speed, so depending on the stroke the engine is on for a given cylinder, and what the lift of the cam, the duration of the cam and what the lobe center angle is, the lobe just will not be straight up when the piston is at True TDC on the compression stroke.

I hate DSM heads, every valve cover bolt stripped.
Lots of drilling and helicoiling. My new PCV valve rattles, what the heck.

yeah i know right,
The valve cover was not the full issue darn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
now i need a new gasket when putting it back on, possibly another flush and oil change just in case, another oil filter, some more tylonal, super glue and bandaids, and some gasket maker. Possibly drop the drive shaft & transferr case, so i can remove the oil pan and make sure my pickup and gallies aren't clogged, more grey rtv gasket maker. googles and a helmet :banghead: anyways.---->

somethings slapping inside their. Drained the oil and added some 15w40 diseal oil, darn it if that didn't prime the hydrolic tensioners either.

I just ordered some topline revised lifters and the special tool to leave the cams in,
My question now is , is it going to damage anything to drive on it lightly until these new ones arrive?

Do Some More...................... Dump Some Money . tomato tamato

Will slappy tensioners hurt anything driving it lightly?

if the tentioner collapes it will most likley be bent valves.....

now worries, it's all removed and out doing a rebuild, i had a broke bearing on a rod, in 4 pieces.
